I am wondering if any moms have had a similar problem. I had an epidural in Feb 2004 with my daughter. I had no problems at the time, but now I have horrible pain in my lower back.

The pain in not a muslce pain and only hurts to touch. When I say it hurts to touch, I mean you can bearly touch my lower back (around the site of the epidural) and I am in horenndous pain. My daughter and I have been playing on the floor and rolling around and she went to roll on my back and I practically threw her across the room on just pure reaction. It hurt so bad.

It does not hurt to walk, sit, or anything else except to touch so I am concluding it is not muscle. I obviously have not been to a dr. about this and plan on talking to my dr soon, but wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. I'm not sure if I should go to my primary dr or got to a different type of Dr, but what kind...

I'm so confused, but know I have to do something about this because it is really bothering me.

What can I do next?

Patty,
I had some pain also. If you find a chiropractor you can trust, I would have him/her examine you. One thing they did for me was traction. Also, there were adjustments, but that could have been from carrying and bearing a child, rather than from having an epidural. At any rate, get this checked out. If you don't like the advice you get, see someone else. You don't need to live with this pain!

I had pain too. The worst part for me was the epidural did not even "take" when they gave it to me, so I still felt pain, and less than 10 minutes after I got it I pushed 3 times and the baby was out anyway! It really irks me that medical professionals feel like epidurals are so great, when they can do SO much harm!
My back pain lasted for about 3 years, but I know women who have severe pain either in the site or just general back pain for far longer (a friend of mine has had lower back pain for 12 years now from epidural!) I have another friend who even leaked spinal fluid and had horrible headaches and nausea from her epidural.
I would see a doctor since it sounds like it is so severe. Please do let us know what you find out!
Best of wishes,
Amanda

I had lower back issues prior to getting pregnant, and then I had ONLY back labor - which was horrible. I got an epidural, and now almost 2 years later I cannot lay on my stomach or my back freezes up and pains shoot up and down my back. Even when I stand for a while, I will get a lot of lower back pain in the area of my epidural. I may visit a chiropractor for their opinion or an adjustment. But when I do have another baby, I will get another epidural. I couldn't imagine delivering without one.

I would definitely get it looked at. I have had 3 c-sections and 3 epidurals. I have had lower back pain issues for 11+ years now. But mine is all muscular not to the touch. Good Luck.

I would track down the delivering doctor or the person who gave you the epidural. They may have pricked a nerve which is now probably inflamed and that would explain the point tenderness.

Patty,
I had a completely unplanned epidural almost 4 years ago when having my daughter. I ended up needing a c-section. I never wanted one because my thought is always, they are human too no matter how much education they have. Luckily, I have not had any problems since. Definately have it checked out, it is definately not right, you know something is wrong.
Best of luck!

Patty,

I had the same problem with my epidural in April of 2002. It took a couple of years, but the pain eventually faded. It's only a memory now.

It can't hurt to consult a doctor, though. Best of luck!

Yup, my baby is now 3.5 years old and I STILL have a bruise on my back in the epidural shot area. It hurts only when I am rolling around doing summersaults. If I ever have another baby, epidurals are OUT! Good Luck!
