Good morning all. I am looking for some advice, My 7 year old is having some anger issues, she told me last night that when ever she gets mad, she wants to throw things and she has a real bad temper to, She does throw things when she gets mad, she also told me that when she gets mad, she wants to know what is wrong with her, I have sat down and talked with her and have tried to get her to open up to me but she doesnt want to, she wants to talk with someone else, i have told her that she can come to me anytime and talk with me, i am her mom and i want to know what is bothering her. I am not sure what else to do, We live in the seminole area. i know that when she does not get her way she does get mad, everytime she hurts herself she crys for attention, she thinks that everytime she gets a scrape she has to go to the hospital so they can x-ray it. i know that is for attention, I am guessing that maybe all this attitude that she has is because she has been home all summer with my in law and has no friends to play with. I am just wondering if maybe i should wait to see what happens with school starting next tuesday. Any advice would be great. Thank you

If she is in a public school, there should be a school counselor she can work with. Most school counselors offer individual counseling and also groups- maybe she can join a group for anger management to learn different ways to express her feelings

Dear S.,

I think it is wonderful that you have made yourself safe for your daughter to talk with you, even though she is choosing not to fully avail herself of this. You sound like a wonderful mom.

I was a VERY angry child. I bit my hands when I got frustrated, threw things at walls, screamed, etc. My parents helped me with auditing, a service available through the Church of Scientology. An auditor is someone who listens, and for me the auditor helped direct me to discovering the problem myself, and determining my own solution. You can find a local church or mission, and simply call or walk in and ask any amount of questions you like. As a mother, my mother and I both find that the book "Child Dianetics" is extremely helpful in solving difficulties our kids encounter, without squashing their abilities or willingness to communicate and contribute.

I would just like to point out the drugs are NOT the answer, as some therapists may believe. For more information on that, please visit CCHR.org.

Good luck to you!!!!

I don't know if this information will help or not, but I have anger issues as well. It is not that I have anyone in paticular I am mad at, it is that whenever I eat meat with hormones in it (this also include dairy and eggs on a lower scale) I get angry at the littlest of things. I feel like I have to throw something, slam something, yell at someone or do something physical to reduce the pressure. But, I have found that if I eat organic or hormone free meat, dairy and eggs this issue is eliminated. I had a friend who read this in a book 4 years ago (sorry I don't remember what book), but this is where I got the information that this was the cause of the problem. I have followed it for several years and even just recently found it to again be true as I wasn't as cautious with the foods I ate. My daughter, who is now 11, never had the same anger issues as I, however, she had terrific mood swings constantly. I have done the same for her, and it has proved to work well for her as well.

I don't know your situation, but I wanted to share because of how much this information has helped me.

Im not a therapist, but I am a former juvenile detention officer who worked mainly with girls from aged 7-21 for over 8 years. She doesn't need a therapist , she needs a mentor. If you want to I can mentor her, and try to build a Rapport with her. I do have references if you request them for security reasons. SSG D. Cox us army

Hi S.!
I only have a 3 year old myself, so I don't have experience with a 7 year old. But I know kids will sometimes open up more to someone other than their parents and therapists are trained to figure out the way to get them to open up and explore their feelings with them. Since it is so close to school it is an option to wait to see if things turn around for her. I just wanted to let you know that I work in the office of some excellent therapists if you decide to go that route. The website is www.thecostellocenter.com. Let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck!

Is she involved in any group activities, i.e. gymnastics, girl scouts...? Did this start over the summer? Sounds like she might be bored. I have a three year old (I know a huge diff in age)and she does that when she is bored. Maybe your in-law can take her places or you can after work...bike riding, park, beach. She needs something to look forward to. Ask her what she wants to do and plan it or you plan it and get her excited :) Summer camps might be an option next year. Good luck!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Gerard Boutin. His office is right on Seminole Blvd in Largo/Seminole area. He is AMAZING, very cordial, professional and our son really enjoys going to see him. He is covered by our insurance. He has very open office hours starting with appointments as early as 6:30am all the way up till 8:30pm I believe and will take early am weekend appts if absolutely necessary to get in when needed. His appointments do fill up, so you should call asap and explain that it is urgent and get in whenever you and go from there. Parents are also encouraged to make appt's seperately from when the kids do (to talk to him) so the kids won't worry about you talking to him and the kids will stay open with him. My stepson has been seeing him for years to keep healthy and sane since he has a mentally unstable mother that he lives with.... Best of luck, I couldn't say enough about Dr. Boutin, he is wonderful!

Do you have a good pediatrician or family doctor that you know and trust? You may want to start there and ask the doctor who they would recommend. I would imagine you could even call the doctor's office and ask to talk to a nurse and ask the nurse. I am sure most pediatricians have therapists they work with or have had experience with. I could be wrong, but it would be a good trusted place to start. And I would not wait for school to start. I know school will keep her busy, but school will have it's own issues and if you can learn some techniques to deal with this now, it may help her get a good running start on her school year. I hope you are able to find what you need. Take good care!
