Looking for a Product to Prevent My 13Mo Old from Jumping Out of His Crib!

Hello moms! My 13 month old son has discovered how to literally jump out of his crib at night! He's never been a good sleeper (he only just started sleeping thru the night 2 months ago), but now I'm worried for his safety. We've lowered the mattress to its lowest level, and we pull the crib rail all the way up and he's jumped out twice...so we removed the rail altogether, but he's too small to be in a "big boy bed" b/c he falls out of his bed/crib since he moves around so much. So now, we put his mattress on the floor with pillows all around, but there has to be a better way. My mom-in-law suggested something called a "crib tent" has anyone heard of this or does anyone have ANY suggestions? Please help!

F.,
I recently purchased the crib tent (2 months ago) for my 2 year old. He kept getting out of the crib at night and so my husband and I thought he was ready for a bed. We were so wrong. The first night in his bed he seemed excited. He got up all night and I slept maybe a total of 1 hour. With a 9 month old to take care of as well and a husband who travels I knew I had to do something fast. My 2 year old was doing the jack-in-the-box with bed and he clearly wasn't ready and I couldn't go through that kind of sleep deprivation again. So the next day I bought the crib tent and it's magical. He loves it and it works. I thought it would be cruel but after putting up and seeing it (kind of looks like a tent you would use to keep out mosquitos) I knew it was the safest thing I could do for him. I introduced it at nap time and would talk about it with excitement and called it his "fort." He got excited in return and it has been nice sleepful nights again.

I hope this helps a little. I know I'm a few days off from the time you posted your question but I wanted to give you my two cents. Good luck!

We currently use a futon on the floor and it has worked well for us.

Good Luck,

Hi. My name is Z.. I'm a stay at home Mom of 2 children 7 - 4 ( girl and boy). My advice to you if you don't have any luck finding the crib tent is to just buy a toddler bed or if your crib turns into a toddler bed go ahead and do the transformation. Any way with the toddler bed you still get use out of the matress and bedding. Also it is low enough to the ground that he can't possibly hurt himself. Another thing is that toddler beds come with mini bed rails for extra safety. I'm sorry to say that your son is growing up. It happens to all of us. It's sad, I know. I have two that remind me every day that they aren't babies anymore they're big girl and big boy. :( Well I hope that you can find a solution to your problem if this doesn't help you. Let me know how it goes.

I have heard of it and seen it when my mother and i babysat at home years ago.
We had a toddler that would clim out of crib and poop all over the floors, walls, etc so her parents bought a net for the crib while she was taaking a nap.
You might try babies r us or toys r us.
Good luck.

Hi F.,

Maybe you could put him to sleep in a soft-sided portable crib like a "Pac-n-Play"... because it's soft-sided it's harder to climb, and the matress is not so "bouncy".

Good luck!

Hi F.,

How worriesome to have your toddler jumping out of the crib. I have seen crib tents at Target.com and Babycenter.com and here:
http://www.securebaby.com/crib_tents_all.html

Hope that helps. My little monkey is just 5mo right now so I'm afraid I don't have any other suggestions. Good luck.
