We are thinking it's time to move our son from his daycare to a more structured and enriching environment. He has a slight speech delay and needs to work on his fine motor skills and after his tranistional meeting today my husband and I feel he would devolop these areas in a different setting than he is in now. We are looking for someplace that will allow him to be there 3 days a week as we like our current arrangement of him spending one day with his PopPop and another day with Daddy. He turns 3 on Sunday and is working on potty training. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

St. Faith in havertown is pretty amazing. They have been a preschool for at least 30 years i would say. I only hear wonderful things. You are on the right track in switching. They really expect the kids to know so much when they start kindergarten.

Hello M.,
Try "Just Kid's" on Baltimore Pike in Springfield. They were excellent for my child. Very clean, great lunches (hot)and they work with your child on the potty training. Very good staff and they have a great learning program.
Give them a call and stop by.

Its not in the Drexel Hill area, its in west philadelphia, but its a wonderful school, Spring School of the Arts. Its very "old school" meaning there aren't a lot of characters painted onthe wall, and things like that. Some of the teachers have been there for twenty years, great lunch, they help with potty training, and they have a very active arts curriculum which includes dance classes, singing, painting, and they have two trips per month to arts themed places. They put on wonderful productions twice a year. I am very active in my daughters life, we read, write her name and spell her name. I use "big girl words" so that she begins to understand them. However, her speech and vocabulary grew by leaps and bounds when she started the program. Everyone there is very loving and caring. I love love love The Spring!

Hi M.,

I have heard great things about Manoa Nursery School in Havertown and Covenant Nursery School in Springfield. Are you looking for full-time those 3 days or just a few hours? Most pre-schools run just a few hours and don't offer a full day program, unless they are also geared more like a daycare. You also could run into the problem of age, potty-training, and timing. My daughter wanted to go to pre-school so badly last year but she wasn't yet 3 at the time of school starting and most of the ones I had called were very strict on the age (b/c they were not a daycare), on being trained and most wouldn't accept them after school started. I also wasn't aware that you need to register a child for pre-school very early - like in January (for that September) and some of them have waiting lists. I would take the suggestions you receive here and from others, look them up and give them a call. It would be great if you could get in someplace but you might not be able to until next Sept, but at least you could do site visits and know when their enrollment is so you don't miss out. That's what I had to do b/c I missed out timing wise but it gave me the chance to visit a few that I was interested in and make my decision, then be able to get a spot during open enrollment. Good luck!

Hi, M.!
I'm not sure if you're willing to travel from Drexel Hill to Bryn Mawr or not, but you may want to look into Clarke PA Auditory/Oral Center.

http://www.clarkeschool.org/content/Clarke_Pennsylvania/C...

They started in the area 5 years ago as a school for the hearing impaired, and just started a mainstream preschool this september. They have an amazing speech and language based curriculum, and their student to teacher ratio right now is only about 2:1. Tuition is about $2500 for the year. If you click on the link, you can find the director's info to go for a visit. Classes are MWF, but i think the times on the brochure are not accurate.
I hope that helps! Clarke is a wonderful place!!!
