Looking for a Preschool for My Daughter

I was wondering if anyone out there can suggest a good preschool, or even K-8. My daughter is 2 years old right now and I was told that there could be very long waiting lists to get into some of these schools. I would really like to find a really good school. It doesn't really matter if it is private or public. I would really like to find schools that focus on more than most preschools. I would like a school that focuses on socialization and academics and teaches them how to interract well with others. I have heard that some moms get on pre-natal waiting lists so I am really worried that I have already caused my daughter to miss out on the best. If anyone knows of any schools worth checking out that you are either on a waiting list for or your little ones have attended, I would really appreciate the info! Thank you!

I don't know what area you are looking for, but Blocks 24hr Childcare center in Oak Park is very good. I worked there for 4 1/2 years and my son attended from 6 weeks until he graduated at 5 years. Their program is very educational. There is a waiting list, but check them out. ####-###-####

I remember feeling really anxious about preschool/school when my son was 2. I think the reality is that there are alot of good programs, some of which will be right for you and your family. Even at that preschool is only a part of your child's experience, none of which will be perfect but likely be good enough...just like life. You'll enjoy it all alittle more if you can trust that it will come together.

Good luck,

J.

There are so many good programs in all the different areas in the city. Once you get some suggestions for your area you will know the right one for you only when you visit the actual facility and meet the staff. Once your out there getting a feeling for things you'll know the right organization when you see it. Good luck.

Speaking as a teacher....she is only 2, if she has had interaction with you, your mate, others, and is confident in who she is, she hasn't missed out on anything. She is only two. If you are that concerned, home school right now. Start her on the basics such as color, shape, big, bigger, biggest, the first 5 numbers. Please don't expect her to write a paragraph for you when she is three.lol Concentrate on the "whole Child" not just the academic one.

Please do a little reading first on what to look for in a preschool. Alot of preschools these days are attempting to be more "educational", pushing kids to do work that is inappropriate for their age, and boring kids silly with worksheets. The work of a young child is play, and a good program understands the needs of young children. The National Assocation for the Education of Youth Children has a guide for parents.
