I was wondering if any of you could help me find a new Ped. I am tired of getting the third degree about not giving my 23mth old her shots. I just want to take her to her well visits and not come out of the appt feeling like I am doing something wrong. Anyway I am in the Southlake/Keller area so if any of you could help that would be great.

What can I do next?

My daughter is also unvaxed, we go to Dr. Kathryn Byrd in Trophy Club. She is okay with us not getting them, never gave me hassle about it. I am in the Southlake area as well.

Hi J.,
I just wanted to add a message of support for you. :) I am delaying vaccinating my 16 month old son into the blood brain barrier is formed around age 5 due to our family history.
My nephew is autistic as a direct result of his vaccinations. My brother is in Keller and very active in the Autism speaks community. His website is www.camsvoice.com and it has some links to DAN(defeat Autism Now doctors) They are VERY supportive of not immunizing. You might find some great info. there. We have also converted our home to non toxic household and personal care products to reduce the risk of Autism, ADD, and childhood cancer for our children.

I live in Keller but lived in Carrollton previously. We tried two peds in the area and decided to stay with Dr. Chiniwala in Carrollton b/c she is great. First, it is not an overcrowded practice, we've never had to wait more than 10 mins. upon arriving to see her. At an office in Keller I waited an hour before I saw the Dr.(that's more than the time it takes to drive to Dr. Chiniwala's office). She is personable with the kids. She takes her time with my husband and I (does not rush you through the appt.) answers any questions thoroughly. Even talked about alternative approaches. She is also a mom so she has acknowledged challenges in parenting that made me feel like she truly understands. Overall, she is a warm, friendly person and a knowledgeable doctor. We've decided that having someone who truly cares about the well being of our children was worth the drive to Carrollton. Hope this is helpful!

I also want to add a note about vaccinations. I think why some people don't understand the choice not to vaccinate is b/c most children do fine with vaccinations. But there are a minority that have severe reactions to them and it should be a mother's choice in deciding what goes in her child's body. You don't have to opt not to vaccinate at all. You can chose to break up the shots or delay them- there are alternatives and it's a mom's right to be informed.

Don't mean to be rude, but why do you not believe in getting your daughter vaccinated? Don't you want her to be protected? Sorry I just don't understand.

Dr Amanda Lovette is a new pediatrician in Decatur with Little Eagle Pediatrics. She is stunningly open minded and supportive of parents' rights to choose - whether it's vaccinations or anything else. She is always respectful of my well educated choices - and if I want her opinion I only have to ask. I have chosen to have certain vaccines and not others, and I have set my own alternative schedule to decrease the risk of reactions. Those who chimed in to this post to ask for an explanation should probably do a little internet research rather than ask this poor Mom to have to justify herself again... she's obviously had enough of that. There are VERY good reasons.

i had both my girls vaccinated. i will not do it with our 3rd (when and if we have one). my second daughter was 5 wks preemie and against my gut feeling i went along with her 2mon. vaccines and she had a very bad reaction. she screamed all day long and was cranky for another week after. i can't prove it was the vaccine but before she got them she was a great baby and then after it all went down hill. she finally started to get better at about 7 mon. but i just pray there was no long term damage from some of the stuff that is in those vaccines like mercury and formaldehyde and other very harmful toxins.
i read another ladies e-mail that said in japan they don't vaccinate till 6yrs of age because the immune system has not developed enough to handle the immunizations yet.
i guess some people just don't get it but it makes perfect sense to me!!!! i totally agree with you!!! my doc is dr. kim burgess. i knew her personally before i started taking my children to her. she believes in vaccines like most docs but doesn't make me feel like an idiot for not wanting to do it. i don't think she's taking new patients though and she's in flower mound. i hope you find a great doc!!!! God bless!!!

I dont mean to be rude either BUT!!!!!------ You live in one of the biggest metroplexes in the nation that has TONS of peoples from other nations coming into it everyday!!! I can't understand why anyone would not vaccinate thier child against potentially DEADLY diseases!! How many DEADLY diseases has the U.S.A. wipped out & now they are making a come back courtesy of all of these foreigners have brought back to this country!!!

Just PRAY that god will protect your little ones!! & that they NEVER go to school with anyone from another country!!!!

I'm in the same boat as Jennifer, I just don't understand people who won't have their children immunized. The only reason you have a choice in not vaccinating your child is because the majority of parents do protect their children from disease, which in turn keeps the majority of disease at bay.
