Looking for a Pediatrician to Clip Son's Tongue Tie

I am looking for a pediatrician recommendation to clip my son's tongue tie. My son is 11 months old and every pediatrician I have taken him to has tried to talk me out clipping his tongue tie however my mother had mine clipped when I was three and I'm really glad she did. I'm not completely convinced I want to have his clipped but I would like to talk to a pediatrician who would at least respect that it is my choice and allow me to make my own decision. I just want to possibly prevent any problems that could come up because of this like speech problems etc.

My son is 5 and his pediatrician and his dentist advised that he not have his clipped (lasered) until he was 7. He has had no speech problems though. The denist said the main reason to clip it is when he starts getting his permanent teeth, to be able to run his tongue along his teeth to get food out, etc. which he can't do now.

My friend's little boy had to have that done. She used:

Michael J Biavati MD
8325 Walnut Hill Lane, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75231
###-###-####

I'm not sure if he'll do it if he doesn't feel it's 100% necessary (my friend's son had major speech problems), but it's worth checking into it.

Hope this helps.

I don't know much about clipping tongue ties, but my pediatrician clipped my son's tongue when he was 1 week old. We were having difficulty breastfeeding and she felt that his tongue wasn't moving forward enough so she clipped it. He is now 2 months old. I don't know what effect this will have on his future. You mention speech problems, I wasn't aware there were any real problems from have the procedure done, but now I guess I should research it more.
Her name is Mary Askari and her office is in Irving next to the Las Colinas Medical Center. My children have been seeing her since they were born and my oldest if 5 years old.

My son had his tongue clipped (as did I) at about 14 months of age...it was NO BIG DEAL whatsoever! I lived in Irving at the time and we used Dr. Joan Kay...she's on Park which is near Baylor on MacArthur/183. I LOOOOVED her..she was SUCH a great hands-on doctor. Always attentive and just so darn nice. I'd still go there if the drive wasn't 30+ minutes...

Good luck!

my pediatrician wouldn't clip my son's tongue either. my husband was born tongue-tied and was never clipped. his older brother was clipped--born in a different state with a different pediatrician. my husband wanted my son's tongue to be clipped, but when I pressed our pediatrician he thought it was unnecessary.

my little boy will be three in three months. he speaks very well, and the only thing that might have been a problem is breastfeeding, but that wasn't our only problem, so it may not have worked anyway had I found someone to clip his tongue. my husband's reasons for wanting our son's clipped were so he could stick his tongue out and kissing! haha. I thought that was funny. but, I think my husband's way of sticking his tongue out is very adorable, and his kissing is great too. haha. hope that's not too much information.

I think pediatricians these days are not so into changing this for some reason. I'm just letting you know you're certainly not the only one, and an uncooperative pediatrician isn't all that uncommon either. I wish you the best!
