Seeking Good Pediatrician ..
Looking to change my son's Pediatrician from a family practitioner to a straight forward pediatrician. I was unhappy with my previous doctor because I don't feel she was up to date with little babies, hours are horrible and it was difficult to reach a nurse or doctor after hours. I always got, "just keep doing what youre doing" type answers when I needed a specific answer to my question.
Being a worried first time mom, I would like a doctor that is up to date on the care of babies and would be happy to take my call no matter the time of day (i don’t call outside of business hours often..)
Does anyone recommend anyone? I'm looking around the NW part of the city (I live off of harlem.. Nothing too far east) or close 'burbs like Oak Park, Norridge, the southern part of Park Ridge..

What can I do next?

I like Dr. Andy Sagan with NorthSide Pediatrics. He is the director pediatrics at Swedish Covenant. He has good hours and always returns my calls promptly. He also offers "quick sick" visits in the mornings so you don't have to make an appointment for your sick child. I feel that he is on top of the latest medical literature and studies and is always very informative and willing to answer questions. He has a blog you can check out: http://northsidepediatrics.wordpress.com/ and his office is located at 2740 W. Foster Avenue, Suite 401
Chicago, IL 60625

Good luck!

I second Dr. Toussaint & Dr. Powell. We see Dr. Powell, but have also seen Dr. Toussaint. Dr. Powell is extremely explanatory and helpful. I have 2 boys--6 and 8. We've been with this practice since the birth of my first son. Their office is in Resurrection Medical Center on Talcott just west of Harlem. Good luck! If you go, you can tell them the Kinney family recommended them!

We also have Northside Suburban Pediatrics, at Peterson & Cicero, and are completely satisfied with the group. Our primary doctor is Dr. Peera, but we have had all of the doctors at some point for each of our two babies.
We have called at any of the 24 hours in a day, and received a promt return call from one of the doctors on call that night. After the birth of each of my two babies, two doctors visited the hospital within 24 hours, and one returned several times before our release conducting their own examinations and reviewing the hospital's tests. they are really an impressive group!

There is a pediatric practice at Resurrection Hospital on Talcott in Norwood Park - Drs. Toussaint and Powell. We see Dr. Powell and like him a lot!

I use Northside Suburban Pediatrics and I'm quite happy with the practice. They're at Peterson and Cicero, ###-###-####(KIDS). Our primary doctor is Dr. Karaman who I really like, but the other 3 doctors in the practice(all women) are good too. No nurses, but they have walk in hours every day and you can page them after hours. So far, it's been a great practice for my 5 year old and 2 year old at any age.

We LOVE our pediatricians - Parkside Pediatrics, at the Parkside office building adjacent to Lutheran General. It's two doctors - one male, one female. They do not allow nurses to answer any questions. If you call the office with a question, one of the docs takes your call right away. If you have a question during off-hours, one of the docs is always on call and will call you back pretty quickly. If your child has an accident during off-hours that you might take them to the ER for, they like you to call them first because it's possible they may be in the hospital on rounds, or in the office doing paperwork, and may be able to meet you in the office and avoid an unnecessary ER trip with unfamiliar doctors. That's the beauty of having an office adjacent to the hospital. You can specify which doc you want to see if you have a preference, but I never do. I like them both, and this way my daughters get to know them both too. I switched to this practice 7 years ago, when my oldest daughter was 2 and I was expecting my second. It was such a welcome difference from our prior pediatrician (who just liked to write prescriptions for everything and certainly didn't take phone questions) and I am so glad we switched.

We have been really happy with Town and Country Pediatrics. They've got three locations, and one is at Lincoln and Devon (not sure if that's far enough northwest for you). We usually see Dr. Bergquist, but have seen a few of the other doctors at that location and have been impressed with all of them. Here's the link to the website:

Best of luck to you!
