Looking for a Good Pediatrician

I love Dr. Nelson at Johnson County Pediatrics over by Shawnee MIssion Medical Center. All of the Dr's there are great!!

I have United Healthcare too so I know this group is on your insurance. We love Dr. Lance Slaymaker at Village Pediatrics and especially love the Nurse Practioner in the office, Janna. She goes out of her way to get you sample meds instead of having to pay for the presecription and she's really great with my daughter. I especially like the fact that they have urgent care after hours and on Saturdays. If you call and ask to speak to the nurse, you speak to them right away, there's no voicemail where you leave a message and have to wait for them to call you back. I have ALWAYS been able to get in to see someone the same day that we call when my daughter is sick. I HIGHLY recommend them!

I too have UHC and know what you are going through, but I would recommend Johnson county Peds. They are right by SMMC. All of the dr's are great and would never think of taking my son to anyone else.

I take my kids to Dr. Michael Blum. He is right behind Overland Park Regional and we all love him and the other doctors and nurses in his office. My daughter is 5 and my son is 6 months and he is wonderful with both of them. My daughter actully looks forward to seeing him!!

Just an FYI ~ I recently received a letter from United Health Care that my doctor wasn't going to be covered. I called my doctor's office to see if they had any referrels, aparently some of those letters had been sent out in error by United Health Care.

You may want to call your doctor's office and talk to the their billing person, just to make sure.

We see a family doctor rather than a pediatrician, but he is excellent with my boys. I've been seeing him since I was 15 and he must have been fresh out of med school. (funny cause he seemed so much older than me then, but now we have kids the same age) His name is Dr. Leonard Navickas, and he is with Shawnee Mission Family Practice, right next to Shawnee Mission Med Center. One new thing I really like is we can make appointments 24/7 by calling ask-a-nurse. So it makes the "wait and see" approach a little easier to do knowing you can get an appointment faster. They have some evening hours now, and they're open Saturday mornings for non-routine appointments. I use Children's Mercy Urgent Care clinic at 435 & Nall for problems that can't wait for office hours.

Navickas' office is ###-###-####. The other doctors in there are good, too. Murphy has a great sense of humor, Thomsen is very practical, Broxterman is more soft-spoken. We saw Dr. Mingle for a while, and he's good. Dr. Foos is the only woman doctor, and my sister and neice went to her until their insurance changed and liked her. I will say I'm not super confident in the nurse-practitioners in the office, but will see them if necessary for things like strep tests. I can usually get in with Navickas, though, since I can call in before office hours for an appointment.

We completely love our doc. She is Sherri Martin and she is at 75th and antioch. She is very attentive and loves the kids.

We also use Pediatric Partners. Dr. Blum was actually my families pediatrition. He is excellent as are the rest of the doctors there. good luck

My kids go to Dr. Holly Kauffman in Olathe. It's a little bit of a drive from our house, but I TOTALLY reccommend her. Her husband Kent Kauffman also practices there. It's the College Park Family Care Center in Olathe on Noble Road. The number is ###-###-####. Dr. Kent was my obstetrician when I was pregnant with my 8 year old, but Dr. Holly delivered her. She is also my 10 month old's pediatrician. The care they give us and the genuine concern and attention they show my kids are priceless. I wouldn't take my kids anywhere else. Hope this helps you!

L.-I know exactly how you feel! I received the 6 letters from UHC. Here is what I know. First the letter that you probably received from United Healthcare-was supposedly sent in error. Adventis (owner of SMMC) and UHC are in negotiations. From what I hear from my pediatrician is that he is confident that they will reach an agreement. So stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed.

I love our pediatrician's office, we go to Pediatric Partners in the medical building behind Overland Park Regional hospital. Our particular Dr. is Dr. Mellick, but she will be going on maternity leave soon. But all the Dr's in the office are great. And they take United, that's what we have too.

I forgot to say to that they have open hours everyday, and I have never had to wait more than a few hours to get in. They also have a web site that has a lot of good info on it. It is www.doc4kidz.com.
