A great place is Birthright located at 11235 South Western Avenue, Chicago, IL. They give you a receipt. Also they take small toys and baby equipment.
Thanks

I just weeded through all of our clothes (husband, me, and two kids worth) and ended up with 9, yes 9! of the extra large grass/lawn bags full of clothes for donation. I usually end up dropping them off at The Goodwill, but was wondering if anyone knew of any charity groups that needed baby clothes. I am now a SAHM so I have some nice women's suits to donate as well. I have heard of organizations that help single moms get back on their feet with makeovers, interview suits, etc. but I am new to Chicagoland so I don't know any in this area.
Thanks so much for any info!jd

Lambs Fold in Joliet is a terrific organization that helps women in need. They particularly need work clothes as they require the women to either be continuing their education or looking for a job while helping take care of each others children.
From past experience I can tell you that at least some charities have so much clothes donation and so little volunteers that the clothes just sits and goes to nobody bc there is no one to sift thru it all. I'm NOT trying to discourage anyone from giving to charity but what I am saying is there are a lot of single moms and families down on their luck right now and tons of them are on freecycle.org. If you become a member of your local chapter via the internet you can offer what you have and the children's stuff is always the first to go. It goes FAST! You can offer it all up as just bags of clothes or you can seperate it into sizes and offer it by size, whatever you want. I've been getting rid of stuff on freecycle lately and it's awesome. The idea is that there are no stings attached and stuff gets reused by people who really need it instead of going into landfills. hth :D
You might consider a women's shelter. I know that there is one in Joliet, but do not remember the name.
try www.newmomsinc.org. They are a shelter for teen moms and they just had a fire in their shelter.
If no one replys, my friend dotates time and items to an organization just like this in the city. I don't know what it's called, but her email is ____@____.com.
I've heard good things about the places in the first two posts. There are also crisis pregnancy centers, or pregnancy resource centers. They give moms alternatives to abortion. You could check for one in your area in the phone book.
There are several places near you that would be very happy to take the donations. These are the 2 I always refer people to: Morning Star Missionary is in Joilet on Jefferson Street. There resale shop is what funds the homeless shelter in Joliet. They also accept public aid vouchers for clothing and furniture to help people in need. Then there is a Domestic Violence shelter in Morris and a another shelter that is always in need of things for moms and children. Then there is another shelter called Under his Wings(Liberty and Benton St)I believe this shelter helps young pregnant moms.
Many blessings,
M.

Care Net Centers take gently used baby clothes up to 2T and provied them to moms who need them. It is a really good organization that helps women and their families with unexpected pregnancies.
Dress for Success is the charity you are referring to that helps women get back into the work force, and they will take your suits! I am a stay at home mom as well, and now sell lia sophia jewelry and this is the organization we support as a company. Good luck!

Second Time Around, First things First, and Little Ones Reruns are all organizations in Lombard that will gladly accept your childrens clothes.
Bottomless Closet is an organization that will accept your old clothes, if they are business type. (They try to help women get back into the business world thru donations & training.)
