Looking for a Girls' First Name to Go with Middle Name Pearl.

I am looking for some really cute, mostly traditional first names to go with the middle name "Pearl". We just found out we are having a little girl, and are very excited, however, my husband and I are having a hard time with any girls' names. We decided to go with the middle name of Pearl because it was his grandma's name, who passed away a few years ago and they were really close. We tend to lean towards more traditional, old-fashioned names, but we're having a difficult time coming up with anything to go with Pearl. Please help!

So What Happened?

Well, thank you everyone for all of your responses! I see that the battle is never ending, endless possibilities out there! I think we might have it narrowed down to 3: Ella Pearl, Evelyn Pearl, or Charlotte Pearl. Thanks so much!

Here are some that mean white (as in white pearl)

Bianca...Italian for white, fair----Bianca Pearl
Brownwyn/Bronwen...Welsh for white breasted---Bronwyn Pearl
Candace/Candice....Greek for Fire white---Candace Pearl
Jennifer (and other spellings)...Cornish for white, fair, smooth---Jennifer Pearl
Fiona....Gaelic for fair, white, beautiful----Fiona Pearl
Gwendolyn.....Welsh for white ring----Gwendolyn Pearl

Most have alternate spellings of course......I just looked for ones that meant fair or white to put it together with Pearl...BTW I love the name Pearl....old fashioned and lovely sounding....

So very many names to choose from and everyones idea of a traditional name is going to be very different.

Best of luck to you!

Hi E.

You sure opened up a flood of choices (you could probably create your own name book).

Whatever your name choice, my sister had a good bit of advice for me when we were expecting our first child. She said, try the intercom test. Say the full name over the loud speaker, it really helped to hear how the name flows and sounds.

My $0.02 would be:

Elaine
Eleanor
Eloise
(not sure why I went with "E"s -- just seemed to pop out)

Laura
Meredith
Kathryn
Jayna

If all else fails, go out for a nice dinner at a good restaurant, and hopefully you will have a fun waitress up for the challenge of helping pick a name. We did that with our second and had the name Kassondra chosen, but just needed a middle name to go with it....

Our waitress came up with "Rose" -- it fits perfect. We sent her a card and she mailed us back a knitted baby blanket -- not your average waitress.

Good luck.

I'm partial to the name Charlotte because that's my little girl's name. We call her Charlie for short. Her middle name is Kay but I think it would go with Pearl as well.

I have always loved the nam Sylvia. I really wanted to name my daughter that bur my husband hated it. I think Sylvia Pearl works. We ended up naming our daughter Sydni and later found out how popular it is.

Funny--I immediately thought of E. and then realized that was your name. :-) Is there a reason why you are using Pearl as her middle name and not as her first?

I agree w/ most everyone else. There are a lot of names that seem to go w/ Pearl. What I have noticed, though, is the longer names work the best.

How about Amelia? It's an older name but still sounds kind of trendy. Or Justine. Classic but not dowdy. We were stuck on girl names too but we're having a boy in January. Good Luck!

Congratulations! Do you like Abigail? Emma is very popular right now, although also very traditional. Hannah is in the same boat. E. has a lot of options for nicknames. Good luck! Try looking through the 1st Testament of the Bible if you like traditional and don't mind any possible religious connotations. Since Pearl is one syllable it sounds kind of nice to combine it with a longer name like Abigail or E.. Good luck! Oops--I just noticed that you are an E.. So maybe that won't work?! Funny. More ideas--Amelia, Genevieve, Rebecca, Lydia, Olivia...Thanks for letting us brainstorm!

What is your grandmother's name? You could name your daughter for both Grandmothers. My daughter is Montanna E. (my Dad's mom was E. Louise) & I was also named for my Gramma.. I am A. E.. If we were to have another daughter, one of her names would have been Aleda (my Mom's mom was Harriet Aleda).

Good Luck in your hunt! Thankfully you have a couple of more months to find a name! A friend of mine growing up, her little sister went 3 MONTHS without a name. She was close to 4 months old before she had a name...Eikes!

Congrats!!

Funny, I was reading the responses and I agree with A.. My daughter's name is Ava, so of course I love it. I also like Clara, Cora, Lily, Lia and Amelia. I would suggest writing the full names you like down and look at them. I did that and posted it on the fridge and that helped to narrow down my decision. Congrats and good luck!

Sometimes names sound different/funny at first because it is something new. After you say them alot it will sound like it was meant to be put together. Good luck. Let us know what you choose. :)

Boy, I see a lot of people already suggested E.. That was the first name that popped into my head; my great aunt was Pearl, and I've been thinking about E. Pearl if ours (due in March) is a girl. I see that's your name, so that might make it off limits for you. I also like Rebecca or Rebekka, and I fell in love with Violet Pearl as well. I agree with whoever said it's about the number of syllables. My sister has a one-syllable last name, whereas mine is three, and we were discussing the fact that it affects the names you choose. So I think something with two or three syllables is a good choice with "Pearl." Looks like you got a lot of suggestions. Good luck on choosing one, and congratulations!

Some others sent Sophia Pearl - I think that sounds lovely. I think it has something to do with the first name ending in "A" that makes it flow.

I think it's all about syllables! Sounds silly, but with a 1 syllable middle name, I would put a 2 or 3 syllable first name. I don't know how many syllables you have in your last name, but say the names all together to see what rhythmacly sounds better. I love traditional names, and Pearl is lovely. "Cecelia" is one of my favorites.
