Looking for a Different Method of Giving Formula...

Hello all... My 6 month old son, no longer wants anything to do with his formula. I have switched nipples...formula...but he only wants to eat baby food, even whens he's starving. The only time he WILL take a bottle is in the middle of the night (gotta love those nightly feedings). The only bad thing about this is he's a little guy already and needs all the extra calories he can get. So what is a mother to do.....I've tried introducing "the cup" but he's like, "ok, what is this mom?".
So, I'm calling to all the mothers out there who may have had this problem.

What can I do next?

A few years ago they had a sippy cup that had a nipple that was silicon and a half moon shape maybe if you try one of those because he may not like the feel of the ard plastic if he is used to a nipple, that is if they still have them. My advice to you is keep trying the bottle. Remember your child will not starve and he will take it when he is ready to go back to the bottle or cup. Try not to over worry about his change in eating habits. I would ask your doctor about it and see what he sayd. My question is this how much baby food is he eating at each feeeding? Is he getting full from the baby food? If so you may want to cut the portion back so that he will take the formula. Good luck and remember in a very short time he will grow out of it.

Hi L.!
I would try mixing some of your formula into your baby food =) This works especially well with baby cereal but really you can put it in anything. This way you know that your guy is getting the proper nutrition he needs and also being able to assert himself! Keep at it and just keep your head up! =-)

Hello! I had the same problem with my daughter who is now 8 months. We started giving her more cereal, every time it was time to eat we gave her cereal and started giving her sippy cups too. It took a long time to get her to just drink, most of the time it was a waste because she would have nothing to do with it but she began to see that it was there every time. In the mornings when she got up and the last thing before bed we would only give her a sippy with formula. She soon she realized that was the only thing she was going to get so she better take it. Also I asked the doctor about it and he said at this age they want more food and want new things, they don't need as much formula but still need it. Also try mixing a little bit in with the food too. Even if they are just getting an ounce here or there! I hope I helped!

I would keep trying it in the sippy cup. Maybe get a bright one or let him pick one at the store and open it and look at it empty. I started giving my son milk in the sippy cup at 9 months and later found out you were supposed to wait until they are 1 year.
Good Luck,
J.

have you tried goat's milk? Try and look for some information on it. I know some breastfeeding moms switch to goats milk instead of formula or regular milk. But that's all I really know.

Take him to the store and try differnt cups till he finds one he won't let go of but it and let him see you prepare the cup of formula, and see if that works. Also are you using tap water or bottled water that may make a difference in the taste especially if you are in Germany, I was told the water on the economy does not contain floride by the dentist and I never even realized that it was in the water in the US and made a difference in my children's dental care!
They also have those cups that the top is like a nipple? Try that...
Is he teething and going through a thing?
Also maybe try a straw in a cup? Does he like to drink out your cup and straw when you buy a drink? My son did at that age maybe younger and when I told the pediatrician (she was fabulous) she told me to immediately start him on the cup and he took it right away!
