My dh's fraternity is having their 50th anniversary bash, and we're supposed to dress formal. I live in my khaki shorts and jeans, so this dilemma is making me very, very nervous. Due to some unforseen events during my labor and the year after, I have yet to lose the pregnancy weight. I can wear XL clothes from the store, but I usually shop at Lane Bryant because their clothes just fit better. Unfortunately, their dresses are only online, and they are not my style. I don't want a dress that looks like I should be the mother of the bride at a wedding...the dress with the jacket over it. Can anyone direct me to a store or consignment store for a dress? Would another option for me be to have someone make a dress for me?
I finally found a gold dress at David's Bridal. Now I just have to find gold shoes that
don't look tacky...

There is a resale shop on 377 in Keller that always has formal dresses displayed when I drive by so you might try them.
This all depends on how formal you are wanting to go.
I love Last Call and Off Saks Fifth at Grapevine Mills. They have designer dresses for not designer prices and you won't find someone else wearing your dress. Grapevine Mills also has Group USA.
Another to try is David's Bridal. They have all sizes, they are reasonable and they have some cute things.
Lastly, there is a shop on Preston near GB. If you are going East on George Bush, past the tollway, take the next exit at Preston and go Right... about 2 or 3 blocks down on the right, there is a formal store FULL of clothes.
Good luck!!!!

A girlfriend of mine just found a cute black skirt and top combo at Kohl's in a size 16 or 18. I bet you could find something at a department store if you shop around.
I am in Irving, I have a few choices that you may look at for dresses they are sizes 16-20 ranging from cocktail to formal. ____@____.com
