I am looking for a cd my family doctor recommended for my son. The problem is she couldn't remember the name of it! she said it was about colors and it taught kids how to spell their colors. My son knows his ABCs, and loves anything to do with letters, so if you have other recommendations please let me know. Thanks A.

Dr. Jean is pretty awsome but what you are looking for is "Frog Street" "Colors" - They are called Sing and Read cd's and they also have one about the alphabet that teaches them to spell words. I used the colors cd in my kinder classroom all the time. I also have the entire Dr. Jean collection which is very very good. She sings about everything from cleaning up to the water cycle and recycling. Have fun!

(This is the cd you were looking for, they sell just the cd at places like Learning Zone for about 20$)

Here's the Frog Street website where you can purchase the CD for $14.99: http://www.fsp3.com/scripts/ProductDetail.asp?Product=FST001. It's one of my kids' favorite CDs. You might also look at the LeapFrog DVDs; they are great for learning letters and sounds.

You already had the response for "Frog Street" here is the link to the website. you can listen to a couple samples...we use this in our school, and it is awesome. 4year olds can spell their color words...and with the entire curriculum they know the color by site, and spelling...

You should buy "Your Baby Can Read" I'm sure you have seen it on commercials. It is a little expensive, but it works. My daughter is 14 months old, she has been watching the dvd's and looking at the flashcards. If I hold up the word clap, she claps. I ask her to show me where the tiger is, and she points to the word tiger, on a page full of words, then you slide the word over to show the tiger. We are on the first week, the tape came in on Saturday. I hope this helps.
I also have letters (foam ones) that go in the bathtub. ABC and 123.

I taught Kindergarten for 15 yrs, have been out of it for almost 5. I believe I have that cd or a copy (shhh, it's a Teacher thing). It is Frog Street, they have a whole alphabet set that is awesome. The colors cd is Great, I still sing the red song with my 11 yo. If you would like it please feel free to contact me. I haven't used it as my kids are older.
Also, Dr Jean was/is so well loved by children. Her abc cd's really taught the letter sounds.
Children really learn & remember when music is involved. It's 1 part of Teaching I do miss.

As a teacher, I can tell you the best thing for your child right now, even more important than recognizing his letters, is sound recognition.

Play rhyming games, when he says a world like ball, excitedly remind him that that also sounds like tall, and mall. Within a few weeks your child will be rhyming...my twins are 3, and they are pros at it.

Look for CDs that have alliteration stories, i.e. sally sells sea shells etc. This will greatly improve his reading and witting as he gets older. CDs with rhyming songs are great too. Just do a google search. Sound is the most important thing for your child to recognize and be able to differentiate.

Great job mom, remember make everything a game, formal education such as sitting at the dinning room table and with a workbook is not the best way to teach any child.

Discovery Toys Sounds Like Fun will teach many different things colors where one manners phonics, it is great. I sure one of the moms on here could hook you up. Just to let you know if you sign up to be a distributor you will get a lot of educational toys that you will use for many years for very little. I still use some of the toys for homescooling my 6 and7 year old.
