Where can I find a kid friendly book shelf and a cubbie- open access toy box for my kids play area. Looking for something where the kids can see all the toys on the shelf and be able to choose a toy with out having to dump all the toys out of the toy box!!

What can I do next?

We got an Expedit shelf from Ikea for my son's room, and I love it. It's 4 cubbies across by 4 cubbies down so it holds a lot of stuff.

V.,

I have the cubbies that are modeled after the Pottery Barn Cameron set. I bought them unfinished & had full intentions of finishing them & putting them in the boys rooms, but then went through a divorce. I am willing to sell them. It's on Pottery Barn kids & just search Cameron. It's the Cameron 5 cubby & 3 open base set. I actually have 3 sets of them.

Thanks

Go with the slanted racks with the bins, Target carries them and I think Big Lots does occasionally as well. Wait till they're on sale at Target usually every other month. The bins get dumped but usually only a couple at a time. I also posted pictures on the outsides of ours - Little People, Matchbox cars, so it's easy for clean up and there's fewer questions of where a certain toy might be.

Try the container store.

company kids has some great storage cubbies. One and two compartment, some open and some with doors. the double open one is around 100.00 and they sometimes offer free shipping. good luck.

Try looking on craigslist.com. I have made some super furniture purchases from there.

I have the bins on the rack too. They are great for little toys like blocks and legos...they haven't been too great for larger items. My SIL got a great shelf for decent price from Ikea. It basically looks like a bunch of squares. She has books on it, toys stack well on it and she has the smaller items stored in boxes that fit in the square. If you have the space I highly recommend something like this. I am jealous of hers! Here's the link to see the one she has, but I think they come in a variety of sizes.http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60071358

I've been looking for similar items. Target and Pottery Barn kids both have some good options as mentioned by previous posts. I just got a catalog from West Elm (westelm.com) and they have a bookshelf that is open from both sides so it could act as a room divider. You can buy baskets to fit in the cubbies or just stack the toys in the cubbies. I thought it looked kind of useful. It comes in several sizes and heights. I was also looking at small cube ottomans at Target that have storage inside. You would have to dig some, but at least they are smaller and it gives you some extra seating. Good luck!

target and big lots both have these slanted wooden racks that come with like 12 colored plastic bins ...i have a set for each of my kids and they are very easy and everything is slanted so you can see right into the top of all of the bins
