I recently got a 5 year old Beagle who is neutered, and supposedly has his shots.Everytime I email his old owners for the records I get no reply. I do believe he is up to date on his shot.He got lost and the people who found him took him to the vet not for shots to see if he was micro-chipped and the vet said he was healthy. My question is where can I get his records? Or will he have to re do them? Also need a reasonably priced vet in Nw Okc.This is our first dog and we have only lived in Okc for 8 months.Any help will be appreciated. Also if this is your vet how much is your visit usually, need to know how much $$ I am looking at.Thank you

What can I do next?

We have gone to two and they have both been good. There is one at 122nd and Rockwell in the shopping center. It is called something like North Putnam City Animal Hospital, honestly can't remember the exact name, sorry. The other is Glenn Eagle Pet Hospital at 150th and Western (Edmond).

I would guess that either place would want to do a fecal test to insure he doesn't have anything that would make anyone in the household sick. Don't know if this was already done by the other family or not. We got a Maltise last year and they ran those tests and administered any shots they couldn't prove, just to be on the safe side. I have small children, so it gave me a piece of mind. Plus we have to have ours groomed, so he has to have a kennel cough shot.

I would look up a few places and call for estimates. Probably looking at $100 or more...

In response to your first question - if the previous owners never mentioned what vet they use, Barkley has no rabies tag on, and they won't answer your calls, there is no way to get his records. If he's not wearing a rabies tag, I suspect they lied to you. Regardless, it won't hurt him to get his shots redone. Once he's vaccinated, his five in one will be good for one year, and his rabies for three years. Definately get them done right away, because even if he's super friendly and just scratches someone, the person who was scratched can claim it is actually a bite and have him put to sleep to test for rabies.

Congratulations on Barkley! Your boys will grow up to be more compassionate and caring now that they have a canine "brother"! =)

I'm not sure exactly where you are and how far you are willing to go. However, I live in Yukon and am willing to drive into OKC to this awesome vet. She is not one that feels she has to run a lot of expensive tests. Instead, she gets down to make eye contact with your pet and uses that and her fingers to do a lot of diagnosing. I've had pets for many, many years and she is the best I've ever run across.

Her name is Dr. Worland. She is at the City Animal Clinic at the corner of May and 23rd St. It's an old looking building but the pet care can't be beat. ###-###-####
