I am looking for a new OB in OKC or Edmond. I have been trying to get pregnant for 8 months now. My current OB's office staff is pretty rude (I feel like I bother them or ask too many questions--I do have a lot sometimes, but pregnancy is a whole new world of unknowns) :( I want a doctor that wont judge me bc I had an obortion 6 years ago due to a bad situation...I dont know if Im having fertility problems or not. I'd prefer a female and someone who has been around for a little while..thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

*** UPDATE: Thanks so far for the responses....Ive never done this before....do I just make appointments with a couple different ob's?? Does insurance pay for this? I dont know how to go about interviewing them?

I don't have any great suggestions... only that (from experience) you need to keep looking and be diligent until you find the right person... it makes SUCH a difference, especially when you're talking about your first birth experience!

I had to fire my OB office in my 8th month of pregnancy the first time because I just got so fed up with not being able to get actual medical opinions. I actually had a nurse use the phrase, "Honey, I'm old enough to be your mother..." in answer to my question about the medical feasibility of a certain test. I ended up with the greatest doctor ever... my first male doctor as it turned out, and he was just amazing. I knew, going into labor, that he was going to do what was best for me and my baby... NOT play medical roulette in order to satisfy the need to (legally) cover his own butt. I'd reccomend him, but he's in Illinois! (wish I was in Illinois for THIS birth!)

Do your research, and when you go to meet a doctor for the first time, ASK your questions... if he/she doesn't have time for a consult or doesn't answer your questions the way you'd like, keep looking. Good luck!

I use Misty Wayman at the Center for Women's Health ###-###-#### www.centerforwomen-okc.com, 4140 W. Memorial Ste. 500
I didn't use her while I was pregnant so I can't say how she is to deal with in regards to that. A few friends went to her before I did so I had good 'word of mouth' about her. Insurance won't pay for you to interview them. A doctor shouldn't charge you for an interview. If so, I would just keep looking. Be sure when you call you tell them you are currently shopping around for a new OB and are wanting to set up a quick question/answer (interview) session. You are NOT interested in a consultation. Before you set up any appointment verify the doctors are on your insurance plan. I interviewed, toured the office and met the staff of 5 pediatricians before I decided on the one I wanted.

I use Dr. Dean Carpenter, he is across from Mercy. He is WONDERFUL!!!! He has a small office and he is in by himself so you don't have to wait too long and he loves questions! Not a female, but a GREAT OB!

Dr Susan Chambers is awesome! She is at Lake Side Women's. She only takes referrals. If you need to use my name you can. L. Roberts
Good luck!
