I am taking it right now and I do not seem to be having too many problems with it, just low labido. What I really wanted to tell you is not to take YAZ. I swear I almost ended up in a mental health facility. Very scary.
Anyone taking Loestrin 24? My dr. prescribed it to me and I never used it. I heard it causes weight gain. Can anyone refer a good birth control pill.
Thanks!!

I have taken Loestrin, and I had good results with it. For me, I had the fewest problems while taking that pill. I'd also tried a handful of other birthcontrol pills. With Loestrin I did not experience spotting or anything bad like that. It also helped with my cramping, headaches, and general menstrual problems.
Each pill works differently for different women. I had to try different ones before I found one that stopped my spotting and cramping. If you read the side effects for any birthcontrol pill, they're pretty similar. Weight gain is fairly common and I've heard of 5-10 pounds. I am not a doctor, but I have taken a few different pills to have an opinion on it. The only way to avoid the side effects is to avoid the pill. Perhaps explore other birth control options.
I have never tried Loestrin 24, but I got an IUD after I had my baby in November...I LOVE it! You dont have to remember to take a pill...and it stays in for 5 years. Plus if you want to have more children they can take it out and you will be fertile immediately unlike the pill...AND THE BEST PART: after about 6 months you have little or NO period!
I have not taken Loestrin so I can not give advice on that, but I can tell you about my experiences with birth control pills in general. I was on different pills for about 12 years.
For years I have suffered migraine headaches, spotting between periods, feelings of nausea and other side effects, but I never really tied it to birth control until I stopped the pill when we started trying to have our baby. I have been off any kind of pill for about a year and a half now and all I can say is that I have never felt better!
I'm not trying to talk you out of birth control pills because they do work very well for what their intended purpose is, and it was great being on a cycle that I could completely count on being regular. (Not to mention the ease of use, doesn't break the romance, etc.!) But for some reason (hormone fluctuations?) my body and I did not get along well with them. I tried about five different kinds throughout the years and while the severity of side effects for each pill varied, I did still have side effects for every type I tried.
As far as weight gain, from what I have heard and experienced, women can experience weight gain from any of the different pills but it usually isn't very severe (5-10 pounds I think) and after a few months your body levels off.
I'm not a doctor though, just sharing what I have learned from experience and heard from others.
Good luck!
