Lodging near Boston

I am planning to take my kids to Boston for spring break this year. It is "home" to me, though I haven't been back in about 5 years. The last time I went, was with my parents and they used Marriott points to get a decent hotel not too far from the city.

We lived on Hanscom AFB when I last lived there, and I called the lodge on post, but they only take reservations out 30 days in advance, which can change to 7, 3, or the day of. I certainly don't want to spend the money to fly or drive there and then not have a place to stay within price range.

I am looking to keep the price per night under $100, it will be my 3 kids and I, so one room is fine. I am comfortable staying up to 45-60 minutes outside of the city, but it must be a safe area.

Do any of you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

You are going to spend a lot of time driving in and out of city. Gas plus parking. I would take Amtrak and stay within walking distance of station which is in the heart of the city.

There are some very decent chain-type hotels in Salem, NH. My mom and I used to stay there when we visited Boston from VT. It's about a 30-45 minute drive into Boston and the prices are decent.
Have fun!

If you don't stay in the city, stay somewhere where it's easy to get on the train and go into the city. We recently stayed outside the city in Billerica and, while it was nice, it was a huge pain to go into Boston.

There is an Embassy Suites in Waltham. It's probably over $100, but it includes a full breakfast and happy hour snacks (and wine!) every day, so you'll save some on food. The other nice thing is you'll have more space, with a full living room, separate bedroom, plus a mini fridge and microwave. Some even have two bathrooms.

I would look into Woburn or Arlington - both have metro access as well.

I would keep trying to get on-base but have another hotel as back up.

HAVE FUN!!!
