Hi there,
I'm thinking about going back to work after being a stay at home mom for about 10 years.....previously I worked as admins in offices but want to do something different. I'm thinking of taking a couse to become a LNA. I'm wondering if any of you are a LNA and what you think of the job. I have never worked in the medical field before and just want to hear what you think. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I worked in nursing homes for many years and I can tell you being a nursing assistant is a tough job! You are the primary hands-on caregiver. That means you are bathing, wiping, cleaning up bowel or bladder accidents, helping with basic activities of daily living(hair, teeth, dressing, etc). You are also responsible for making sure that you handle all these tasks in a very professional and dignified manner to ensure that your patient or the resident in the nursing home feels cared for and wholly respected.

I think you mean CNA- Certified Nurse's Assistant. I know it seems picky, but "certified" and "licensed" carry two very different levels of responsibility. Take the course and see what you think. My BIL worked as a CNA while completing his nursing degress and loved it!

Its a tough but rewarding job. I am now a nurse and though still very busy and sometimes quite stressful, it pays more and is not as physically taxing. Some LPN (licensed practical nurse) programs are 0ne year and you can often find flexible programs for the adult learner.
Just a thought, if you love people and want to make a difference in someone's life when they are at their low, both are wonderful options but they are not for the feint of heart,
Best of luck!

It Utah ans Nevada its called CNA Certified Nursing Assistant. I was a CNA for 10 years and I am still certified. I just found a job that paid more. I really miss taking care of people though. Being a CNA is very rewarding but, sometimes thankless. It is great to help people and most of the time they are sweet and the families are greatful but, sometimes you get a bad egg an ungrateful person. As long as you don't have a problem with bodily fluids being a CNA is great and pays pretty well. There are a variety of patients types and places that you can work. In my 10 years I worked with new born babies all the way up to a lady that was 105 years old. She was ausome. She told me that God forgot she was here so he was not coming to get her. LOL. I also loved my kids that I got to work with at an Lon Term Acute Care Facility. They were so fun but, it was a little more sad than working with the elderly. Something about when a child dies is so much harder to deal with than when an elderly person does espessially when you have taken care of the child for 3 years. Good luck. I am not saying this is you but, please only do this job if you love taking care of people. People who only do it for the money do not make very good aides and they make the patient's life and thier coworkers' lifes harder than it already is.
