Reading the book got me to thinking: all you tooth fairies, what do you do with the tooth after the switch has been made. Are you saving them? How?

I saved one tooth in a small plastic zip bag for years. I couldn't let go of it. Gross! Throw them out.

I kept the first one in a baggie in a box with her art, etc to put in a scrap book when she's older. Just let it air dry somewhere (a high shelf, maybe) to make sure it's not damp. We also took pictures of my daughter with the tooth and the tootsie roll she used to pull it out and the next day with the cash. She wouldn't let anyone pull it for her, so I had her do it herself by biting down slowly on a tootsie roll then jerking the toosie roll up and out. She had control that way and it was out in about 10 minutes without a bunch of drama. We also read a "Junie B. Jones" book that answered the question of what happens to the tooth after the Tooth Fairy takes it. The morning after the Tooth Fairy visits Junie B, her baby brother gets a new tooth. Teeth are recycled! (That answered that question.) I highly recommend the Junie B Jones series it's about the adventures of a very creative, spunky girl through Kindergarten and First Grade. I began reading them to my daughter at age 4 and we both enjoyed them.

Good luck with the tooth.

We saved all of our daughters teeth. They are in a little glass container. Once she was old enough, she asked about them and was delighted to see we had saved them all..

I have no idea what she will ever do with them. She is an artist so who knows?

The strangest thing I have ever heard of was from one of my Aunts. She told us that she saved the circumcised piece of skin from each of her sons! When her sons were married, she gave their new wives, this "treasure"!!!!???

If you plan on saving it, make sure you brush it (well) with a fluoride toothpaste, maybe even soak it in mouthwash with fluoride or something... I know of people who tried to save their kids teeth, and they didnt clean them, and they decayed!! You can get special boxes for saving them too, even ones marked for each tooth (so there is a seperate spot for each specific tooth). I personally havent had a chance to save any yet, as my daughter tends to swallow her loose teeth while she is eating (for some reason!!). We had to convince her that the tooth fairy only needs to see the hole the tooth left, if you cant find the tooth!

I bought one of these for each of my children and I love it. So far, I have 3 from our daughter. Our son is about to turn 4, so he hasn't lost any yet. But, I have his ready to go as well. =0)

What would you do if your Mom gave you all your baby teeth? I think that would be kinda weird. I don't plan on saving my kids.

My daughter just lost her first tooth on Sunday, so I for sure kept that one. I havent thought if I will keep all the rest. I am sure I will if I catch them, but if not I wont freak like I would have with the first.

My mother kept them in a plastic bag hidden in her jewelry drawer. I found them one day when I was about 16. I thought she was crazy for keeping them....they were gross! My son is 3 so I'm sure I'll have a different opinion once I'm faced with the same question. I also get totally grossed out by loose teeth. I'm fine with blood and don't freak out about any disgusting kid situations but loose teeth will have me crawling under the bed to hide!! To answer your question...wash them and keep them somewhere tucked away. I 'believed' in the tooth fairy until my wisdom teeth were removed and my mom told me she wasn't leaving a dollar under my pillow since it actually cost her hundreds of dollars to get them out!!

My kids haven't lost their teeth yet, but I probably won't save them. I am a picture fanatic so I will probably come up with some creative way to snap a photo of the tooth that shows perspective to its size. I will then probably make a photobook on shutterfly or mixbook.com with all the pictures, the dates they were lost and maybe a little story about the process, how it happened, the tooth fairy etc...
