Hi Folks!

I found out yesterday evening that my daughters camp is having dress like a pirate day on Friday. Long story short, but we ar eno home for the summer so no dress up box with scarves ans bandanas, and no sewing machine either.

So any thoughts on what I can make by hand in a couple days? I don't have a lot of extra $$ this month, and will get what I need at Walmart. I am fairly good at crafts and can sew abit, so creative ideas are welcome.

Thanks for your help.. my brain just can't handle this right now (25 wks pregnant, with husband away all week for work every week, and working 31 hours a week from home, I am just to tired to be creative on my own).

Thanks again!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the suggestions! My daughter is going to be a pirate princess... and she informed me that a pirate princess has a wand and no eye patch :). So I bought some sparkly pink fabric and some "jewel" trim and made her a sash / belt; a multi colored pink fabric drawstring bag out of scrap fabric they were selling with gold colored cord to hold her pirate treasure, and pink bandana for her head. I couldn't bring myself to buy her the pink skull and cross bones bandana...

Also good thing she does not want a sword, because apparently they are no allowed!

Finally - where I am staying in PA right now, there are no nearby stores with pirate anything. Yesterday morning, I was checking out the dollar stores (no party stores around) and Walmart etc. No one had anything!

White button-up shirt with puffy sleeves, eye patch, bandana around the head. Black capri leggings, then get a couple yards of red fabric to tie around her waist as a sash!

My son had to dress up for a pirate last year for school. I went to walmart and bought a yard of shiny, satin-looking material, less than $2 per yard. I cut off one strip that was about 5 inches wide and a yard long. We used that to tie around his waste as a sash. I used the left over material and cut it into a square and then tied it to his head. we cut some pants off zig zag just above his ankles and he work a plain white t shirt. I cut the sleeves zig zag too. In the party section I found a pack of eye patches, so he also wore one of those. It took less than 30 minutes to put it together.

I would go to a dollar store instead. I bet they have a "pirate kit" that you could get that has sword and eyepatch. Then just get a bandana and then maybe a striped shirt at the walmart. You don't have to go crazy.

Take an old pair of her pants that are too short and cut them off at the knees in a zig-zag pattern (to look tattered). Take an old button down shirt of yours or from Goodwill, and do the same to the sleeves and the bottom hem. Take some fabric and make a bandanna for her head. Like the previous poster - I just saw some pirate things like a sword at the dollar store a few weeks ago. Hope that helps!

Do you have a partyctiy or such store near you? Or maybe a Factory Card outlet? Those had costumes here a lot of the year!

Heck - WalMart might even be getting out costumes this early ...

Mallory has the greatest answer! You can add to that by buying some material & wrapping it around her with the ragged bits that you have torn hanging down with some leggings underneath! There is striped material if you wanted a cute vest (easy to hand sew with 3 pcs. of material) & a strip of both for a belt. No worries on this, mama cuz' pirates are bummy looking anyways! Have fun & don't stress!

Congrats!

OH NOW my thoughts have gone to, pirates past! You can attach a gold hoop to her bandana for a piratey earring & purchase gold wrapped candy coins to put into a, 'booty bag' that she can share if she wants!

Knickers (cut or zig-zag hem pants), longer length white blouse, rope belt & bandana head scarf. Eye patch & sword optional. (And usually they don't want even fake weapons) Maybe O. or two hoop earrings.

Easy & cute!

Hi J.-

Great suggestions below...

Don't forget the eye patch! Walmart will have those for sure...if not already black, a permanent market will fix that.

Maybe a small stuffed parrot for her shoulder?

Get an eyebrow pencil for beard stubble...

Hope she has fun!
