Little Boy Feeling Cold

My two year old has been complaining lately of feeling cold- even when it's 90 degrees outside. I can't find a rhyme or reason to it, just seems like we'll be driving somewhere and then he'll say 'Mama I'm cold!!!'. The other day my in-laws took him to the park and they had to bring him home early because he was complaining of being cold and having a tummy ache. When I went out to get him from his carseat, he was just drenched in sweat. My husband is a physican and examined him, but doesn't really have an answer. Has anyone else experienced this with their child?? No other symptoms.

What can I do next?

Ya hes doing it for attention and the tummy ache was from missing you especially if there only children thats a symptom. I have 5 and two of my kids use to pull that for attention even though they get plenty they always find something to make more.

Could he be confusing hot and cold? My children use to do that.

I think your son, doesn't know the meaning of the word cold -- or is experimenting with it's usage. He might have a tummy ache or perhaps he has just discovered that this is a way to get attention and make his grandparents take him back to mommy and daddy.

Not with a kid, but my dad is that way a lot. He has pernicious anemia. Probably wouldn't hurt to have some blood work done.

If he is sweating, and it is on his clothes, and you are running the A/C, he could be cold from that versus internally. As others have said, he could be confusing the two as well. If he has a tummy ache, could he be having chills inside from a fever?

I agree with Michelle. My three year old was saying to me just this evening that he was cold in bed.He then asked me to take off his pj top and tried to kick off the blanket. There was sweat at the back of his neck and it is very warm tonight. So I just came to the conclusion that he was mixing up the two-hot and cold.
Maybe you are putting extra clothes on thinking that he is cold which in turn would cause him to be distressed.Layers are better to wear.

Best of luck

That used to happen to me, feeling cold and sweating at the same time. No conclusive answer, but the adrenals cause the sweating when the thyroid isn't pulling it's weight. Just a suggestion as I'm not an expert. I tried Wilsons Temperature Syndrome to solve my problem with the sweating and adrenal fatigue. But with a child that young I'm just not sure. Good luck!!

Yes, when my daughter is not feeling well, is nauseated or needs to vomit, she has no other vocabulary developed to describe how she feels. We have just associated it with a tummy ache or not feeling well, for no other words on her part to tell us she feels "blah". We check her temperature and assess her (I am a nurse) and find nothing else wrong and resolves on its own. Hope that helps you:)
