It really does sound like a cold sore especially with the canker sore next to it. Try L-Lysine tablets (it's in the vitamin aisle). It has made a huge difference in the duration of my family's cold sores.
I went to the endodontist on Tuesday and had to have a root canal. She gave my lip a blister, which has since popped and is now sore and a little pus-y. There's also a little canker sore next to it, but that doesn't hurt so I'm not worried about it.
I've been using Neosporin Lip Health, but I was wondering if anyone knew of something else I could use on it? I have to go back in a week for a cleaning and permanent filling and I'd like my lip to be healed before then! Plus I'm sick of looking so gross. When I google, I get stuff for cold sores, but I'm not sure that's what I'd want to be using. Or maybe it is, I've never had this kind of sore on my lip before.
Thanks!
I'm not sure if it's a cold sore- I think it was a blister from where the shield thingy was rubbing on it while she was working, because it came up right away, before my lips had even gotten feeling back from the anesthesia.

Yep, sounds like a cold sore. Either way, I wouldn't put anything on it, actually. You want it to scab over and heal, and it won't do that if you keep something on top of it.
Leave it to the air.
Anytime I have a cold sore, it takes about a week to heal after the blister has popped. You can put lip balm around the rest of your mouth, if you need to, just leave the spot with the sore dry and keep it clean with hydrogen peroxide.
The best chapstick I have ever used I order from Melaleuca...it has tea tree oil in it and heals lips quickly. Plus when you have a bad cold it works to just rub your finger on it and put it on your nose to keep it from getting sore from using kleenex repeatedly! Works better than chapstick, blistex or anything else I have tried!
I had that when I had my braces for the first time. Usually the doctor will give you a wax. But at that time,,my doctor didn't, she forgot,so I put on Chinese medicine on it. It works. If you go to the Asian store, usually they have the medicine section, try to ask them. They have a small bottle contains green herbs, special for mouth wounds, sorethroat. It stings when you apply it, but it helps quickly. But you must also go back to the endodontist to ask her the wax.
If it is puss, put on shredded turmeric on it. Turmeric is also very good for antii bacterial and wounds healing.you can find it in asian store, too.
Good luck.
Carmex. It says it for cold sores, but it also helps with chapped or broken lips, cankers, and a variety of other mouth issues. Its for external use only though. If its on the inside of the lip, orajel makes a remedy that will help heal and take away any pain that is associated with it.
It does sound like a cold sore. Sorry. Once you get one, you will be prone to them for now on. Don't kiss anyone while you have it - esp your kids! :) Otherwise they'll start getting them too.
I get them a few times a year and my doctor gave me a Rx for it called acyclovir - it's an anit-viral. If I start taking the medication immediately when I start to feel the tingle of the cold sore the length and severity of it is greatly reduced. It's annoying though b/c you have to take it 5x a day for 6 days.
Next time I'm going to try what Lucia suggested too.
I like to use Blistex ointment, seems to help everything on the lips.
