For anyone that has seen it...Do you think a 10 year old that's interested in history would stay interested in the movie or is it a little boring for that age group? TIA.

What can I do next?

I loved it but it is wordy. Very little action, nuanced, old American English. I would wait on that one.

I think the 10 year old would have to be pretty mature, the *typical* 10 year old would find this movie pretty boring. I was telling some friends that I felt mentally tired when I left Lincoln. It was good but it's not one of those movies where you can sit back, veg out and just soak in the entertainment. It is a very "academic" movie. It took a lot of focus and concentration on the dialogue to not miss anything. It was a good movie though :-)

I just saw it and for me parts of it were a little boring. Worth a try though. It is a good movie and you learn things you didn't know.

It's not historically accurate, but my son who is 11 and tends to shy away from 'scary' movies, and is a bit of a history nut did enjoy it. He liked being able to at least pick out the time frame of many scenes.

I will also add that my 8 and 6 year old liked it, but for very different reasons :)

Depends on the child.

I would prep them before hand about where Lincoln came from and about his back ground and his wifes back ground.. also a bit of a history of the civil war.

The movie begins with Lincoln and Mary just losing their son. The war has been going on..

And the South still hanging on to their way of life, not wanting to change..

We preview movies that are "grown-up" ones our daughter wants to see. Only you truly know your kid and whether he or she will find the long stretches of talking dull or interesting. Go see it first. You might do better to have your child see it on video so you can discuss things and stop and start it.

One thing to know - it is not a regular biography that tells his life story. It focuses entirely on the last four months or so and on the battle in Congress to get the Thirteenth Amendment passed, so there is a LOT of political maneuvering and over 140 speaking parts. There's nothing about his early years or the start of the war, etc. If your kid is thinking of this as more of a "story of Lincoln's life" -- it's not, though it is fascinating; however, if a movie about the machinations of getting an amendment passed and the many, many characters would be confusing, definitely wait for the video or do the video when your kid studies the Civil War later on in school.

I'm taking my daughter to see it but she likes very talky TV and movies and knows what the movie is and isn't about. Plus, she's 12 and studying the Civil War in school.

I took my 9 and 13 year old. While the 9 year old had a bit of trouble following everything, he learned a lot. I am a strong believer in exposing kids to all kinds of things. It is pretty amazing what those little brains can absorb!

I agree with Odd1. It's also very political, and I'm not sure that a 10 year old could follow the reasoning.
