Light, Small, Compact Pick up Truck

i love my suburban, I can fit so much stuff in it! People ask me often to help them.

You really need to go to a used car lot with pick up trucks and see which one works for you. I don't know if you're tall or short or what. I don't know if you will be toting your grand babies while you are thrift shopping.

If your car gets you from point A to point B and doesn't cost you every month in repairs? There is no downside. Log on to consumerreports and get information on the trucks you have narrowed it down to. If you have a trusted mechanic? Ask him/her which trucks they work on the most!! Then you know what to avoid as well!

If you still need to be able to pick up your grandkids AND your thrift store finds....

I would suggest a Suburban - lots of space in the back and you can still safely pick up friends and family.

If you want the "openness" of a truck?

Honda Ridgeline - although I think the bed might be too short for you - I don't know what you are looking for in the truck - as I don't know what you like to buy at yard sales and thrift stores.

Toyota Tacoma's are good too...or the Tundra...

Chevy has the Silverado - it's bigger but if you want family to ask you for help? that would be a great one to have...

I would go to Carmax and walk around the lot. Hop in to each one and see what feels right to you!

I had a'96 Ford Ranger. Loved it and everything about it!! Had to sell it because I couldn't do 2 car seats in it and needed to tow a boat that was too big for the little ranger. With an 8 ft bed I could load many things.. Moved my brother to Iowa with 2 Rangers and a Mustang.. So when packed right they will get the job done well!
I also live in a place that gets snow and couldn't resist taking my truck out to an abandoned parking lot and sliding around.

We have only larger cars ( f150 x4 and gmc xl) I would suggest getting readers reviews on cars. And see what trucks make the highest ratings. And going to a dealership and test driving it. Few!

I know ford makes cars that are very cheap to repair but it is no where near of a nice ride like gmc. ( we got our ford for kids sport 5 years a go) Just the turning in a Ford will make you pull your hair out!
Maybe now it’s better they make a Ranger.
My hubby looked into tundra ( Toyota) much better on handling. They make a smaller one ( Tacoma) but honestly not worth getting a smaller one since it’s only about 5g cheaper vs tundra that’s full size.

Also take into consideration if you need 4 wheel drive all the time or something you can turn on and off. If weather is a factor I say get 4 wheel all the time.
Also with a pick up truck know you need to purchase ( sometimes) lining and “ lid” as I call. To cover the bed.
We personally prefer German cars in my family. Steering, quality and performance is superb. But after test driving gmc ( and needing ridiculously big vehicle) we went for Yukon. ( vs Lexus Mercedes and Audi)
Look into maybe vw..know many friends that are in love with their cars! They make atlas ( mid suv ) Tiguan ( a smaller one) I think they have also Touareg ( I think it the biggest they make and yet very reasonably priced). Please also know that most cars 3rd or even 2nd row goes down and you can fit a lot and I mean a lot into the vehicle.. not always pick up is needed.

Personally I would stay away from Chevy vehicles. They are yet to catch up. Inside is very dinky. Ford is decent Gmc much better. And Cadillac is obviously the top.

Good question. So the down side is some roads don’t allow trucks. The good news is it will transport a lot of people.
