Licking and Spitting

I am having a problem that seemed to just start out of nowhere about a week ago. My daughter is almost 3 now, and has sucked on her fingers ever since I can remember. I have been breaking her of this since it started and that didn't take too long. She only does it now after she is asleep. I don't want to wake her up to tell her to remove the fingers, so I let it go when she is sleeping since it happens after she is asleep, not before.

But lately she has started licking her arms just out of the blue, and spitting in her hands and rubbing it on her arms, stomach, and legs. I have checked her hands and other parts to see if they might be dry and that is why she is doing it, but they aren't. I really would like this stopped now! We do punish her when she does this, and it seems to upset her. But the behavior seems to keep going and sometimes gets worse.

Any suggestions as to what to do would be helpful. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

What can I do next?

I don't know what to tell you accept you could call your dr. and tell them of this behavior and see if they have any suggestions.

Good luck!

Hello S.. I don't know if this will work or not, but when she starts licking her arms maybe u could give her lotion (l would use baby lotion in case she licks it off) to rub on her arms. Just an idea, best of luck!

This might sound odd...but do you have pets? My son around that age started acting like animals. It was totally his imagination and we had to remind him that we are humans not dogs, bears, lions or cats. (His imagination is HUGE but totally fun and wonderful!) He would crawl around and bark and lick faces and stuff. She could be imatating a cat or a dog and not understand why they are allowed to lick themselves but she is not. It could be way off, but it was just a thought.
