One of my neighbor's is moving out of the country. She is selling her LG front loader digital washer and dryer for $1000 for the pair. She paid $2000 a year ago. Good deal? Pass? My washer and dryer are 10 years old. Uses a lot of water and energy. Anyone have this brand. Good, bad? Thanks.

What can I do next?

I love mine! I have the LG Steam washer and dryer. I bought mine the week after Thanksgiving last year for 1600 out the door with a 2 year warranty on both from Best Buy.

it's a great price, but i have the same set and HATE it. the washer smells, you can't soak in it, you can't put as many clothes in it, etc..plus dog hair gets stuck in the holes. Also, i have to use the quick cycle as it takes an hour twenty minutes for perm. press to wash and 2 hours for allergene cycle. the dryer has quit working right on permanent press so i use normal and have to keep starting it back up.
and I will sell you mine for 700 so i can buy a 3.3 laundry basket top loader from sears.

I would get the model numbers and do a search on them for reviews of any problems. Some have problems and some don't so get the reviews on it. If you were to buy this same set or similar what would you pay new? If it's only a year old and you can verify that she did indeed pay 2G then half price for a year old is good. Check it out, ask if you can do a load to wash and dry to check it out. They should understand that you may be handing over 1G so they shouldn't have a problem with that. If you find that she paid $1500 then offer half of that. She should still have a receipt so if she has a problem she can call the manufacturer, and you'll want that receipt and all paper work involved if you buy and knowledge and paperwork if she had any work done on it.

We recently paid over $600 for a top loader (Speed Queen--the commercial version is used in laundromats) so I'd say financially it's probably a good deal.

I didn't want a front loader because of the complaints about smell & maintenance that I've read--not this make specifically though.

Google make & model & you'll see some reviews. (Possibly sites like Lowes/Home Depot have reviews on their websites.)

Front loaders are not cheap and $500 each is a great deal. We paid $2500 for ours 5 years ago. GO FOR IT!!! Good luck and God Bless!!

I love love my Lg washer and dryer.. My Dad helped me buy them... It was a family Christmas present. Ours are 5 years old and run great one thing with any front loader washer always leave the washer door open to prevent mold and musty smell where the washer door seal.. All front loader door seal so tight. I would go to sears or home depot to pick the sales persons brain about the model number. Saves a lot on water and energy..

I'd get the exact numbers and research the list price. There are multiple models of LGs.

I had a pair like this and I really liked them. Clothes got so clean, I could do my "hand wash" in them, they were quiet.

I never had a problem with them "smelling". After I moved out, my ex started having this problem. When I looked at the washer at his house, he had never wiped the door down and had "gunk" all around the inside of the door (yuck). All it takes is an occasional swipe around the door to dry it off to keep it clean. It also takes much less detergent than you are used to using. Using too much detergent can also cause build up that can lead to smells. He was using 4 times too much detergent (which is the amount you need to use in a top loader.

The pair I bought (and left behind) is still going strong 7 years later, with average use.

I think it sounds like a good deal. But just do a few consumer reports type search like some of the others here have suggested. You can also post your old set for sale on craigslist and get a little bit of that back. I recently sold a pair on craigslist for $150 and had several hits on it.
