I actually take it. If you are depressed it really does help. It takes about 2 weeks to kick in and you will see a difference. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Here's a link where you can look up any medication.

I suffered from postpartum depression when i had my daughter 6 years ago. Wish my doctor knew right away that I was having it since my depression got worse that I ended up in the hospital for a week. If you're given the right anti-depressant and it's helping you without bad side effects, stay on it for yourself and your kids. You might be feeling good now since you're taking it but don't stop taking the meds. The doctor won't give you the meds if he or she didn't see the signs. You won't probably on it forever but it does help.
I, too am on it for almost a year now. It is given for either depression or anxiety. I take it for anxiety and felt a difference within a week. It is something that changed my life. My only suggestion is that for whatever reason you have to get off, be sure and speak to your dr. Don not just stop taking it cold turkey for there will be side effects. Hope it works as well for you as it did for me.
I am on this medication as well. i have depression and anxiety disorder and have been diagnosed for 9 years now. I really like the lexapro and i see a therapist as well as a psychiatrist who does the medication monitoring. As others have said, not every drug works for everyone the same. But it has helped me a lot.
For anyone with depression/anxiety or even just kids, i would suggest that you also take care of you phsyically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. These are all parts of the whole person and need to be taken care of as well
I work in the mental health field and many of my clients have been on this medication. None have reported any negative side affects, but I pulled this off of WebMD and this sounds about right. Did you doctor not explain eveything to you? They should have. Medication side affects are not the same for everyone, if you do have any, tell your doctor right away.
From WebMD:
Antidepressant medications are used to treat a variety of conditions, including depression and other mental/mood disorders. These medications can help prevent suicidal thoughts/attempts and provide other important benefits. However, studies have shown that a small number of people (especially children/teenagers) who take antidepressants for any condition may experience worsening depression, other mental/mood symptoms, or suicidal thoughts/attempts. Therefore, it is very important to talk with the doctor about the risks and benefits of antidepressant medication (especially for children/teenagers), even if treatment is not for a mental/mood condition.
Tell the doctor immediately if you notice worsening depression/other psychiatric conditions, unusual behavior changes (including possible suicidal thoughts/attempts), or other mental/mood changes (including new/worsening anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, hostile/angry feelings, impulsive actions, severe restlessness, very rapid speech). Be especially watchful for these symptoms when a new antidepressant is started or when the dose is changed.
I hope that this helped a little.
Hi L.,
yes, i can give you advice based on experience. I was struggling with anxiety and depression and lexapro was prescribed to me. It was crazy!!! I felt weird and my thoughts and actions got worse. I actually started feeling and thinking suicidal things and having awful thoughts that my children were being harmed when i wasn't around. Now, everyone is different and meds effect people in different ways, but sometimes it takes some trials and errors to get the right one for you. I am now taking wellbutrin and it's doing it's job. My side affects were so minimal and minute that i didn't notice them right away. I didn't feel weird and i just started to worry less and less about the things i can't change and things i have no control over. I don't stress out as much and i've noticed a difference in the way i talk to my children and my boyfriend. I used to yell constantly and that got me nowhere. So i hope this helps you. Good luck and remember, you're not alone and you're not abnormal.

Hi L.,
I have been on Lexapro for almost 6 months now and it has worked and there are times that it hasn't I also have Bipolar Disease so I have that working against my depression. So Lexapro works for me when I am not in the middle of a Bipolar episode.
I was on Lexapro and it went well till i got pregnant, they put me on Zoloft. I liked the Lexapro, but it wasn't safe for pregancny. Good luck.
It's used for bi-polar. My ex-husband was on for it.
Hi there, I too was put on meds to "calm" me down. I have a 5 yr old boy and 2 yr old girl. It was the best thing I ever did! First I was on Zoloft which worked well bit then I plateaued and now I'm on Wellbutrin which is a miracle drug! It keeps me calm without getting too anxious especially when the kids are at their worst. It just keeps me mellow (for the most part) as I normally an uptight person. Give it a try and let me know!!
hi, i've been on this before, it didn't quite work for me (could have been that i was also on respidol at the time) and my mother-n-law is currently on it, but says it's not doing anything for her (almost been 1 yr). if you have any questions, you can email me, possibly i can answer the questions for you, i just am not sure what exactly you wanted to know about it.
