Let's Talk Specific - What Can I Expect to Pay a Nanny?

My 22 month old DD is currently in a daycare center. I'm very happy with the quality of care, her teachers, and what she's learning. We are trying for #2 and I'm starting to consider what would be the best overall option when we have 2 to set up care for instead of just one.

I work from home about 90% of the time. The remaining 10% I go into the corporate office in Irving. I think I would want someone from 8 - 4, M-F. What might I expect to pay a nanny and does that include the amount before taxes are taken out or after?

What can I do next?

I am not sure if you would be open to this, but you might want to consider allowing someone to care for your kids that could also bring her child along. I would try to find someone with a little one the same age as your daughter or a little older. Because she has been with other kids in the daycare, she might miss having friends to play with. It is also cheaper to pay someone who has a child because they are caring for their baby too. It could be a good situation for you..I would say you could pay more like $7-$8 per hour. Good luck with your decision making process, I am sure it is a tough one! ~A.~

I worked as a nanny from about 1998 to 2001. I started at $10 an hour working 44 hours a week and got a dollar an hour raise each year. The hourly rate was before taxes. It was a set salary and they paid me whether they needed me or not. They also paid me vacation pay- I only had vacation when they were on vacation though. I know that before they hired me they checked with nanny agencies in the metroplex to see what the going rate was. They had two children and the rate also included light housekeeping like laundry and vacuuming.
