Less Appetite in a 7 Month Old

My 7 month old doesn't want to finish his meals anymore. He seems to be nursing less and now will fuss and cry while I'm trying to feed him his solids. All I'm trying to get him to eat at lunch and dinner is a serving of rice cereal and a jar of first veggies. He was eating it just fine as recently as last week. What's going on? What can I do?

What can I do next?

Just like adults -- or even moreso -- babies take spells of less or more appetite, and with growth 'spurts' --and between, they need less or more ingestion. It's natural!

Please look around at all the overweight people in America and realize that encouraging anyone to 'eat more' (unless they're truly sick or so depressed that they don't want to eat anything) is counter-productive. Your child WILL EAT when s/he is hungry!

Diet is not an emotional issue. It is a sustenance issue, but it can quickly turn into a battle of wills and a control issue if treated with too much concern.

As long as any baby or child eats, drinks, pees, poops, has energy, rests well and seems healthy & happy, DON'T SWEAT IT!

Relax. He is just slowing down. Don't force feed him. His body is telling him when to stop. He has a tiny tummy, and it will empty fast.

Here are some eating tips and more info at the link:

http://blogs.goddardsystems.com/Cedar-Park-TX/2009/12/26/...

# Offer new foods on multiple occasions. Many children need to try a new food up to a dozen times before they like it.
# Set a good example and try new foods yourself.
# Encourage healthy food portions. Never insist that children “clean their plates.” Rewarding a clean plate may lead to a distorted idea of food, such as ignoring feeling full or eating for a reward.

you know my six month old daughter does the same thing sometimes. she'll scream for a bottle and once she gets it she maybe drinks a third of it. i find it frustrating- however my doctor assured me it's just another phase. my daughter is my only kid so understanding whats going on is hard for me- but its hard for the baby too- she doesn't understand whats going on either. i guess we just have to be patient and cross our fingers this phase passes soon. if he doesn't start eating more after a few days though- you may ask your doctor about it.

teething is my guess. My kids were not that interested in nursing or eating when getting teeth. I would just wait until he is ready to eat. As long as he is having enough of wet diapers don't worry about it.
