L.,

I take my daughter (now 13) to Dr. Beena Khetpal. She isn't right in Leonardtown -- she's at the Breton Medical Center in California, MD -- but worth the drive. She's very nice, and my daughter is very comfortable with her. We like her a lot. Also consider that as your daughter gets older, she'll probably be more comfortable with a female doctor. Her exams are very thorough, too, and include vision and hearing.

When I was new to the Leonardtown area six years ago, many people told me that "everyone" goes to Dr. Dhillon. We tried him, he's okay -- but I wasn't really impressed with his manners. For instance, just before my daughter hit puberty she put on a little weight. She wasn't fat by anyone's definition, but a little heavy for her height. He told her during a check up that she was "chunky" and berated me in front of her for letting her drink juice (which she rarely did, but he brushed me off when I tried to explain that). It hurt her feelings and made her very self conscious for a long time about her appearance. Girls don't need that.

Plus, he never did the vision & hearing check ups that Dr. Khetpal does, nor did he ever check her spine for scoliosis -- which Dr. Khetpal does routinely.

Hope this helps.

L.

My daughter goes to Dr. Miller's office. I plan to use them when my son is born in December too. :)

We use Dr. Dhillon. His is in Leonardtown and is awesome. He has called us at home to check on my girls if we had been in for a sick visit. He will always take calls on off hours or call you back. At times there is a wait, but that is because he has such a wonderful relationship with the Amish community who just bring their kids in without appointments. If you value community and respect the culture, it is worth the wait!!

Hey L.,
Know it's a bit of a drive to Waldorf, but Dr. Kristi Machemer at Waldorf Pediatrics is just awesome. She really takes her time (which sometimes makes her run a bit behind) and interacts with your child like no doctor I've ever seen. Just love her! Best of luck and welcome to Southern Maryland!

I take my daughter to Dr. Dhillon in Leonardtown. He's such a gentle man & I've seen children in the office who like him. The nurses are nice, too.

About the only cons I can think of is that we oftentimes have quite a wait, both in the waiting room & in the exam room.

We us Dr. Miller's office. I take all 3 of my kids there and I really like him and I LOVE Dr. Reed. They also have a female Dr. Her name is Dr. Smith. The wait is usually not that bad though sometimes there is a bit of one but they always apoligize for it. I like it because they do not think they are God and know everything! They are also ok with me delaying vax's and never give me a hard time about it.
