Anything I have left over goes in a tray and I sit it by the woods for the animals to eat at night. Don't like putting it in my garbage can...and it makes a good meal for a hungry animal.
Ok, we have left over oatmeal everyday as that is what my kids like to eat for breakfast. I am tired of the normal things you do with oat meal. I can only take so many cookies, muffins, breads and even, meatloaf. So does anyone have any ideas for left over oat meal that isn't some sort of muffin, cookie, bread or meatloaf? I need something new.
Lol! I have tried making less, but some days all 3 kids eat 10 cups of oatmeal and then other days it will be 3 cups. I make old fashioned oatmeal so it takes 10 minutes to cook after the water boils and that makes it hard to get to school on time. Instant oatmeal has way too much sugar and kids would regularly eat 2 boxes a day. Not cost effective. Nice thought though.
Thank you you everyone that is giving recipe ideas! Keep them coming! I love them!
Also, we live a very densely populated area. There are no wild animals, not even stray cats (ok, not totally true, we do get a wild pig eve so often but you would never encourage one near you... They will send you to the ER.) There are cockroaches, and lots of them. Where we live in Hawaii it never freezes so the bugs never have that massive kill off other places get. And though I am sure that the birds wouldn't mind oatmeal, I kinda suspect they would rather nab the mulberries off my next door neighbors trees than have it.

I didn't even know you could do all that with left over oatmeal!
I do have an oatmeal bake recipe, maybe that will be something you could try, never tried it with leftover oatmeal though:

Make reindeer food!! Put some glitter in it and sprinkle it on the lawn so Santa's reindeer know how to find your house!! :)
LOL DENISE! (Here kitty, kitty!)
Make less oatmeal???
Funny Rachel D is trying to feed all the stray cats in your neighborhood with your leftover oatmeal!
Good luck!

I make oatmeal balls.... once it cools you know how it is more solid and gummy. Take a spoon full and roll in palms- make balls.
I put on a plate and drizzle with a bit of honey. Kids will eat them as a snack during the day.
Whatever is left at the end of the day goes in the trash, but for the most part that isn't an issue.
coat it, mix it with egg .....& fry in butter as you would potato pancakes or corn fritters. Serve with syrup.....
Our dogs finish our leftovers!
apple crisp with oatmeal crust???...one of my favs :)
I put leftover oatmeal in the refrigerator and then "fry" the slabs in a little bit of olive oil or butter and eat it the next day.
I learned a little trick for making old fashioned oatmeal a little quicker from a friend of mine. Put what you want in a plastic container then add some milk to it, enough to completely cover it. Let it soak in it overnight and it absorbs the liquid. I sometimes do this in the morning along with some frozen fruit and eat it for lunch at work. You can either warm it up or eat it cold this way.
Can you get quick oats? I eat this too once in a while when I'm in a rush. I also add frozen fruit to mix in.
I also make a drink called Avena, which uses cooked oats.
You cook 1/2 cup of oats to mix in
In a blender add 1 cup milk, 3 tbsp sugar, 2tsp cinnamon, oats and 1 cup ice. Blend and drink. It's really yummy.
Maybe I am off base here but I actually intentionally make too much oatmeal at once. Each morning I dole out what I want, zapping in the microwave to reheat for a hot, good breakfast with whatever toppings.
make patties out of it and fry it.
With butter in the pan.
Pancakes. These were pretty good. And they freeze well for weekday breakfasts.
We don't make a huge amount at a time, but normally my husband will make what he does make somewhat bland, and then we can add in walnuts or raisins ourselves. Then we can reheat again the next day, and add something different, say bananas and hazelnuts. Totally different meal, still oatmeal breakfast, and it is fast and easy the next time.
put it out for the 'reindeer"
I end up eating it myself. Cold isnt' good but its good for you.
