I left my son's Amaoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium out of refrigerator almost 3 hours. It was not in a hot place at all. Is it ok for him to take? My husband's already given him his dose tonight. Please help.

What can I do next?

Fine. I called ghe pharmacist about amoxicillin left out overnight.
Said it was fine, refrig was suggestedistly to inhibit bacteria growth, so avoid extreme heat and refrigeration is safEST, but no biggie!

I did this once, and I called my pharmacist to see if it would be ok and he said to just put it back in the fridge and it would be fine. Can you call your pharmacist to make sure?

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Ours have always said "refrigeration recommended." Probably tastes better cold. But read the insert that came with the prescription to be sure, or call the pharmacist. Personally I wouldn't think twice if it hasn't been exposed to any heat.

Any time I have any doubts about medication I always call the professionals. The pharmacist. There are always pharmacy's open 24 hours somewhere.

A doc is not a professional in medications. They only know what the drug reps have told them and how they have seen the meds work. Pharmacists do nothing but study medications so they are the ultimate professionals. I would call the one where you got it but I truly think the med is fine.

A pharmacist once told me that the refrigeration portion of the instructions was strictly for making it taste better. Not sure if that's 100% true or not, but personally I'd have no worries about giving it to my child after a few hours on the counter.

It's absolutely fine. They only tell you to refrigerate it because it makes it taste better. My pharmacist has told me this several times.

3 hours isn't that long, especially if it wasn't in a warm place. I think everything will be just fine :)

Hope your son feels better soon!

Some medications are only recommended to be refrigerated to improve taste (Zithromax, amoxicillin). Augmentin on the other hand, requires refrigeration to maintain potency. However, I would not worry if it was only left out a few hours.
