Leather Couch

I have a microsuede couch that has been discolored by the sun. It is in front of the family room window, which faces south. I like to keep the blinds open in the winter to have the sun warm the room, but it has ruined the couch. I am going to replace it, and was thinking of leather. Has anyone had the sun discolor a leather couch? Thank you so much for your input.

What can I do next?

Yes it will discolor, and possibly dry/crack the leather if it is not being regularly conditioned. I would put a blanket over the couch when the blinds are up. Some really great answers here:

also, not sure what color you're thinking, but a lighter color would fade less. just a thought...

We have leather. We don't have the sun issue due to major planning when building.

However, we do have a window tint on all windows. You can't tell it at all unless you open windows and the beauty of it is also during the day, You can't see inside.

You would never know I have the professionally tinted windows unless I spill the beans about it. It also helps protect the wood floor and furniture.

Anything in sun, will get discolored/faded.
Fabric or leather.

Whatever fabric/material you decide, definitely look into some window film. Not only will it reduce, if not eliminate, fading of your furniture & floors, it will help maintain the temperature inside your home. Our main living area faces west and we had all of those windows "filmed" due to the afternoon/evening sun. We used Window Genie, if you want to google them. We had it applied 8-9 years ago & have never had a problem with it peeling, etc. You can clean it with Windex, etc. just like you would on your windows anyway. Hope that helps!

Sun will bleach out color of anything given enough time
No matter what you get furniture wise, it might be best to have your windows coated with some film which will protect against sun/uv damage/discoloration.
Something like this might help, but there are lot's of them out there:

No I have not...and that is exactly why I have a folded matching quilt that I have drapped over the back of my sofa.
