My son who just turned 4 got a Leapster Explorer for Christmas. Anyone have one of these, and are there any suggestions on favorite games? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My 4yr old son got one for Christmas too and he plays with it non stop!!! He got Toy Story, Mr. Pencil (seems to be a favorite), UP and Xmen which he loves!!! I also got some of the Leapet codes and downloaded a book and a train game for him too. I know some of the regular games you can add on to them with the leapets too. We just recently got him a case for it from Wally world for 15 bucks (the only had the leapster 2 for a while) and the charging base is great so you aren't eating AA batteries!! I think I might get him Penguins of Madagascar the next time I someone has the games on sale.

My 5 year old got one for her 5th birthday and she loves it. She doesn't play the individually bought games as often as she loves the pet feature and writing games on the base model.

My daughter got one of these for Christmas too. She got Mr. Pencil, Dora, and Toy Story, but Mr. Pencil & Dora have been her favorites. Tho I dunno if she's just forgotten about Toy Story haha

Side note on the Explorer... did you get the charger base too? We did & I'm sooo glad! lol She ran the battery completely out in less than 4 days haha

My son just got this for his 5th birthday. He likes the pet game that comes already on the device, and then he got the Toy Story game. He really liked that until I used the download code that came in our package to load Jewel Train. He plays that every time he turns it on! I don't know how long it will hold his interest now that he has done all the levels, but he started over at the beginning and seems happy about it. I was pleased to find that I did not have to pay for the extra shampoo and stuff for the pet game, you "buy" it with coins you earn from playing games on their little website and all. I was worried there for a little while that I was going to be paying again and again.

My just turned 5 year old got one about 6 months ago... we LOVE it!

You've probably figured this out already, but there are two ways to get games... in the store or download... the downloadable games are less impressive, but certainly entertaining for young kids.... plus they are WAY LESS EXPENSIVE (TWO download cards cost $14.99 not $24.99 for ONE). However, the cartridge games are VERY neat and have Disney Characters in them and lots of levels and modes to play in.

The other benefit to the downloaded games and movies, is that they are actually ON your Leapster. With the cartridges you have to deal with the VERY SMALL pieces.

Of the downloadable games he really likes:
SugarBugs
Alphabet Stew (kind of like Boggle)
Harmonies

He has, and watches all the downloadable movies. They are the same as the dvd movies you can buy. It's all the LeapFrog movies... Letter Factory, Math Circus, etc.

Cartridge (store bought) games he likes:
Toy Story 3
Tinkerbell
Mr. Pencil

My son just got his Explorer for Christmas and loves it. His favorite is the Jewel Train app. It is the one that you have to move the tracks around to make the train go into the station.
My son also loves the Mr. Pencil game.

My daughter also got one from us at Christmas, and then family members gave her games as gifts. She has mr. pencil, the globe, tangled, princesses & up. She liked tangled best at first but lately she's been playing mr. pencil the most. I also like the globe one. Family members also got her the toy story game, tinkerbell, dora & the penguins but I told them to keep them until her birthday in April so she's not so overwhelmed! I don't think you can really go wrong, just go with what your sons interests are and use the others as introductions!
