I gave birth 7 weeks ago and have just now started experiencing periodic leaking urine. I have been doing Kegal exercises (not routinely though). Just wondering if any other moms have had this problem, should I contact my physician, what helped your problem...
I also wish I knew how to stop this. I have always been too embarrased to ask my Dr. My husband thinks it is hilarious because when I sneeze or cough, etc. I have to hold my legs together hoping not to pee. If you find out how to make it quit I would love the secret also.

First of all don't sneeze lol, or cough, or laugh too hard. And if you find a way to stop this let me know because after childbirth nothing is ever the same again.

I had my first 6 years ago and have a second 2 years ago and I still have this prob with laughing real hard or sneezing real hard. Its no big deal since it is a bit, but it is normal after having kids. Just keep doing kegals and stuff to help with it.

It is normal to experience this. I also had the same problem when my daughter was born. I don't remember how long it lasted but mine eventually got better. Best of luck

I had my son back in June. I had the same problem you are experiencing. My went away after four to six months. I do know that some women have to get surgery.

Are you leaking urine after coughing or sneezing? Sometimes that happens. If not, I would definately ask your doctor about that. Knowledge is power.

I made an appointment with a urologist last week. After having four boys I can't seem to walk without leaking. I am having surgery at the end of March and they will be putting in a sling that will solve all of my problems. I will let you all know how this goes.

Join the club!!! LOL I know it is no fun, but unavoidable. My new years resolution this year was "to not pee my pants when I laugh, sneeze, or cough."!!! Everyone got a big kick out of that one!
Good Luck!

Hon,
I am 46 years old with 3 kids, 21,24,27 and I have resorted to wearing panty liners every day! Short of surgery which I have not decided upon yet there is not much hope for this. I have done kegals for years and I still leak! It has become a reflex to cross my legs when I cough, sneeze or laugh....Picture that in the grocery store or anywhere in public...I was doing it and did not event realize it till my older sister saw it one day when we went shopping and laughed at me. Good Luck!!!

My daughter is 4 and it's starting all over again for me here lately. I have been so sick with a cold lately and when I cough or sneeze I have to hope not to pee as well. When I laugh I have to hope and pray as well not to leak. What was worse for me lately is I was throwing up after taking a pain killer and while throwing up wet all over myself even though I had just went pee not 1/2 hour before that. If it doesn't improve I'm apparently going to have to talk to my dr. or start wearing a panty liner or something just in case.

It's been 2 1/2 yrs since I had my son and I too have this issue. I remember asking my doctor's nurse at one post check-up after my delivery I have yet to have a normal pap. And, she told me to work on my kegals but this has been 2 years now and my other issue with abnormal cervical cells is now resolved that I am going to bring this up to my doctor again because the only time I leak urine is when I jog/run while exercising. This has really been a demotivator and I still have not lost all of my baby weight yet. So, if anyone else has any advice too I will let you know. I do see my doctor in a week and will let you know what she says.

I few years after my daughter was born I started leaking, the same as you. Over a few months it progressively got worse and eventually there were times when I stood up from a sitting position and my bladder just seemed to "let go."
I made an appointment with a urologist and found my bladder had "fallen" and become tilted. To correct this they "tied" my bladder up using a sling. Immediately following the surgery I could tell a HUGE difference.
So if your condition continues or becomes worse I suggest a trip to the urologist. Don't wait till your tying a jacket around your wait to keep from looking like you've had "an accident."

Keep doing kegals. If it doesn't stop, you might want to ask your doctor, and make sure you're doing them correctly. Unfortunately, this is one of the things you have to deal with after having a baby. :/

Keep doing the Kegal's. Doesn't have to be 'routinely' just anytime you thing about it. Heck you could be going down the road or standing in line at the grocery store and do them. :) It does get better. However, it does take a while. If you notice you have the issues through out the day you may want to have a panty liner, that way you can change it an not feel wet or have a smell. It also keeps you from worrying if you wet enough to show through your pants. Don't get too worried about it though. It'll be all good. :)
Congradulations on the little boy!

I experienced the same thing as you with my son and the leaking subsided after about 4-6 months at the latest. My Dr. told me to do kegels but I really wasn't too consistent in doing them, so I just wore a light pad until the issue subsided. I never even had the pee escaping when I laughed or sneezed or anything, it was just a slow leak that dampened my underwear. It will go away!

This can be a problem for quite some time after you have a baby. The problem is that your bladder has not figured out that you are not pregnant anymore and it is still used to the pressure from the baby. You NEED to see your Gyn for this problem. You can take meds until it returns to normal. Goodluck!

Oh! I did that too. Isn't it annoying?!
It will pass. If you want to help it along, go to your local xxx store and get some Benoui (Spelled right?) balls. They are for your kegal exercises. Hope this helps.

You need to do 25 kegals 4 times a day. Maybe as you sit down to eat and when you brush your teeth you could do them. These actives may remind you to do them. It will take time. I think that is your only answer. I'm a mom of 9 so I know what you're talking about.
