I am not sure what it is or how to get it out……Ever so often I will wash my daughters clothes and there will be stains on them that look like oil spots. I do not think they were there before I washed them, but they stay forever and will not come out. Anyone else experienced this? If so, what can I do? I try so hard to take good care of her clothes but they always seem to get stains I can’t get out or these funny oil looking stains. I need all laundry advice I can get, it has never been my strong area! Thank you!

What can I do next?

Those "oil spots" show up all the time on my kids clothes and the best advice I ever got to remove them (even after they had been dried in the dryer) was to rub Dawn dish soap on the spots and then re wash--the Dawn cuts the grease and will usually remove the stains. Hope this helps!

Hi K.,
The only thing I can think of for you to use that may get the stains out would be oxy-clean or grease lighting. You can get both at wal-mart. Good Luck

You don't happen to have a Calypso washing machine or the like (a non-agitator), do you? We had one of those before our front-loaders and this always happened to our clothes. Do you have a service contract on your washer? If you do, I would definitely call them for service and tell them what's happening. (If not, I'd paid for a service call.) If the stains weren't there before washing and if they're always blackish in color, I would assume it's the machine.

I had something similar happening, mine was like a brown stain especially on tags and such and it was the belt in the dryer, my dryer was messing up and the clothes would get stuck for a moment--just long enough for a permanent stain to be on them. Not sure if it is the same thing....

Sometimes some foods spilled on our clothes leave an oily residue we don't know is there.

A great pretreatment of oil stains is to spray with whatever stain spray you have (Spray N Wash, etc.), put a drop of dishwashing liquid on it with a drop of bit of detergent. Rub into the stain and wash.

The best laundry stain remover I have ever used is called Soilove. I found out about it from a magazine I take called "Debt Proof Living" and the Editor, Mary Hunt, raves about Soilove all the time. You can buy it at www.SoapsGoneBuy.com or find out more information about it from www.DebtProofLiving.com. Good luck!!
