Laundry Problem

Last year I bought my daughter a Kelly's Kids Christmas dress on clearance. It is red an green corduroy with a monogrammed white collar. I put it on her the other day to wear to her Christmas party at school. Her hair was damp and it caused the red to bleed through onto the white collar. I'm pretty sure I can get the stain out but I'm afraid to wash it now. It says to wash in cold but I'm worried the whole collar will turn pink. I suppose I could have it dry cleaned but would like to launder it myself. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I managed to spot bleach the collar and get the pink out but still haven't washed it. I tried calling Kelly's Kids and they are closed until after New Year. I guess we'll see what they have to say in a week or so!

Shout makes a product called "Color Catcher" that you put in the wash. It looks kind of like a fabric softener sheet. It "traps loose dye" from bleeding fabrics and the wash water. You can find it in the same area with regular Shout. I use it in all of my red & dark loads to keep the colors out of the white parts. Why they make clothes with both colors together, I'll never know. They're cute but high maintenance, huh?

I would contact Kelly's Kids and inform them of what happened. They should refund you the cost of the dress or offer to send you a similar one in its place.

To have the material bleed into the collar of the dress simply because her hair was wet makes me question the quality of the product--and you should mention that to customer service at Kelly's Kids as well.

One of the laundry helpers I have that seems to work is a dye bleeding cloth I found somewhere, I think Kmart or one of those other places that has "seen on TV" stuff, that you throw in with the wash and it is supposed to "grab" the dye in the wash and keep it off the other fabrics. It seems to work well.

The other thing that you can do, except it is work, is to take the collar off and wash it in bleach or another product the takes dye bleed out and wash the dress separate-but then the red & green may bleed together. Then sew the collar back on or better yet put it back on with snaps or velcro so it is easy to take off in the future for washing.
Merry Christmas

There are some really good color-safe laundry soaps out there now. I would look into them & then hand wash in your sink. But, I also agree with what Jennifer said. That's pretty lame that they would put a white collar with other colors that will bleed. And who wants to dry clean their kids' clothes?!
Good luck & Merry Christmas!

I use a laundry product that will remove the red from the white collar.
