Laundry Detergent Recommendations for Cloth Diapers in Plano

Hi...

I am researching laundry detergents for cloth diapers... We live in Plano and I have no idea if our water is soft or hard... I was thinking it was probably hard water...

So I was wondering which detergents do you CD moms recommend for a top loader? I am new to CD and our second child is due at the end of January...

I bought Ecos free and clear because I read that it was a good detergent to use and then read that if you have hard water there might be some buildup... so now I am confused about what to use...

Thanks, M.

So What Happened?

Well... My daughter got a really bad rash because of her sensitive skin and we decided to use disposables... No rashes since... I didn't get any rashes With my first child using disposables either... But I change her all the time... I guess I simplified my life... Went back to what I knew! I applaud all you ladies who use cloth diapers! Thank you for answering my question!

Welcome to CD! I'm in N. Carrolton and cloth diapering my 5th & 6th babies right now. I love Charlie's Soap! I get it delivered - Amazon $9.99 free ship. It lasts forever! I also have a top loader. HTH! Good luck! It becomes addictive - there are so many cute diapers!

I use Tide original powder. Works great!!!! According to all the charts, it's not recommended (due to having dyes, enzymes, etc) BUT I chose it after hearing many many great things about it. I've used it (almost) exclusively for 11 months (since starting CDing) with no issues. I did try the Tide free and clear, and had stink and repelling issues for the first time. I went back to Tide original and problem solved:) I have a variety of fabrics, both natural and synthetic.

I'm in Dallas, so I'm not sure how different our water is. I use Charlie's Soap. Have been using CD fOr almost 4 months now and had to strip them last week, so I think the soap is working pretty well.

The Babies Bottoms and More stoe in Farmers Branch is a great resource and could probably help you! www.babiesbottomsandmore.com

I live near you...YES the water is very hard! Ecos is not good for hard water.
I buy my cloth diaper detergent from Sprouts. We use it for all our laundry. It's called Country Save and it's very good, for cloth diapers. It's about $12 a box, but lasts forever! They key is to use only half the recomended amount, for the diapers. Also, get some Calgon water softner from the grocery store. It's cloth diaper safe and really helps with the hard water. It's ont he detergent aisle. You can read more about country save here, they have a section for cloth diapers:

I am in Dallas and I use a natural laundry cleaner that is appropriate for babies too. I love it, and it is safe for your baby and the whole family. If you are interested go to my profile and then to my website.

I live in Plano, cloth diaper my son, will cd the second one (due in May), and I also work for a CD store. I am on the fence about whether or not Plano has hard water compared to its surrounding cities. I really like both Country Save (found at Sprouts or on Amazon) and Rock in Green (found locally at Babies Bottoms and More, in Farmer's Branch). The Classic Rock in Green seems to do better at my house than the Hard Rock in Green (which is formulated for hard water). I am currently using Country Save, but I think that rotating detergents may help keep funk at bay, especially as the diapers age and tend to be more difficult to defunk. Rock in Green also makes a product called Funk Rock, which is supposed to help with that. I haven't had a chance to try it yet though. I have tried Charlie's Soap and we have it for sale at the store, but you need to use a disinfectant with it (like Borax or Vinegar, which some cd manufacturers warn against using), or it may cause rashes (which it did with my son).

I hope that is helpful. LOL, I just saw that Elisa (owner of the store) already commented below. :) She is a wonderful resource of information!

I use Rockin Green hard rock formula and LOVE it. I'm in Farmers Branch where I know we have hard water and the RG hard rock is the only thing that got the ammonia stink out of my 2 1/2 year old's diapers. For some reason they get more ammonia-y as the baby gets older. I have heard that Plano water isn't as hard as surrounding areas, so you might want to try out Classic Rock first.

I run the cloth diaper store Babies Bottoms and More in Farmers Branch and we have sample sizes of Rockin Green, Charlie's Soap, and Tiny Bubbles if you'd like to come by and get one. The first one is free. If you want to try one of each the 2nd and 3rd samples are 75 cents each. You can also get one free sample with any purchase by ordering from our website. www.babiesbottomsandmore.com, and adding "Sample of any laundry detergent" to your cart.

I'm in Plano (yes we've got hard water) and I've been cloth diapering for 3 years (3 kids with sensitive skin)) and have tried several different detergents. I've had the most success with Rockin Green, hard water formula. I buy mine from the www.nappyshoppe.com. They are in the area and you can pickup at their Allen warehouse.

I'm a huge cloth diaper advocate to feel free to message me if I can help.
