OK Moms out there~~~how in the world do you get sand out of bathing suits??? Short of cutting the inner liner, I am at a loss. They have been soaking for a few days and nothing!!! I really do not want to put them in my washing machine this way~~Any good ideas out there? Thanks!!!!!!
Thanks Moms!!!!!!!!
So many good replys came back~~~A good majority of you sugested that I let the suits dry out and then shake them. Before I slit the linning, I will try this one. Seems so obvious, silly me!!! Thanks again for all of your replys~~~Great advice!!!! Christi

My daughters top and bottom piece were filled with sand, like mountains, a few weeks ago. I tried the soaking and it didn't work. I let it dry out for a few days and was able to shake most of it. I then washed it in the machine and it's virtually all out.
Take the swimsuits outside and let them dry. Once they are dry shake and shake and shake. The sand will fall right off. Another cool tip is that you can put baby powder on your kids dry skin after a day at the beach and it will help the sand come off their skin. We lived in Hawaii for ten years!
Hi C.,
If you haven't already tried this...try letting them dry all the way. Then most will come out when you work on it. Then, if you wash them inside out, the sand in your machine will be minimal. If you can then put them thru the dryer, that will do even more. Another trick is to cut the back end of the lining so that sand just passes through (at least some of it)the little liner (assuming you have the kind of suit that is just a liner in the crotch area). Good luck...don't know if that helps at all. If you have the full liner, it probably won't.
Hi C., for us, growing up in Hawaii we just learned to put our bathing suits under the hardest pressure of the shower or under the water faucet. That worked just fine ;-)
Hi
I had this problem the other day too, and my daughters suit has a full liner with NO opening.
I finally ended up stretching the suit slightly, under hard water pressure, and that forced most of it out of there.
Funny, I almost posted the same question!
Good luck.
I have my kids pick 1 suit that will be their "beach suit" for the summer. So only one suit gets ruined with all the sand and tar that ends up on/in it! Good luck.
I have to admit that I just bought 3 suits at Target for $3.44 each. I can't get the sand out either. Some beaches have extremely fine sand and it gets in everything. I'm just going to have to throw out the suits filled with sand at that price I can afford too.
I have heard that baby powder will get sand loose from almost anything. Let me know if it works!! Good luck.
This happened to our first expensive suit, I even called the company to complain. In the end I tossed it and now buy cheap-os for the beach and nice ones for the pool. ;-(
let them dry first and then shake the sand out before washing
I looked online... yes, cut a little slit in the liner.... use agitation, in a bucket of water or something, or use a strong water hose, and shake it out.
Don't put it in the washing machine... the sand will not be good for the mechanics of it.
Good luck,
Susan
I assume the sand is in the crotch pocket? I slit the lining, so it truly is a pocket, and then turn the pocket inside out. and then shake it. and then sqirt it hard w/ a hose.
Use washer at laundry mat. Personally I just throw them in my own washer.
Before we leave the beach, I take off my bosy suits and change them into street clothes. I place the suite in a plastic bag. Alot of sand comes out of the bag. I give the bag a good shake, to get as much sand out, then I just wash and dry the suits. I have not had any problem with sand staying in the suit at all. We leave a few blocks from the beach, so we are there every weekend. But my boys bathing suites are pretty simple in that there are no pockets.... surfer wear, so there is not alot of places for sand to hide out.
My friend has a girl and she wear bikini bottoms and a surf top, and she never has a sand problem... I am probably no help here....
Hope you find a good solution!
ETA: YES! Baby powder is awesome to get sand off the bums and legs!!!!! A must have before leaving the beach!!!!

I've just given up and put mine in the washer. It work great and i don't see any problem with doing this so far.
I was going to tell you to use baby powder - but I see many postings suggesting it already. Baby Powder is the way to go with sand!
I would also like to know this!
the powder trick the lady mentioned below is AWESOME fortaking sand off the body before getting dressed and in the car!! However, as far as te suits... I have had no luck either. So...I have one bathing suit my daughter wears to the the beach...th eothers are for the pool.
I go the beach weekly with the kids, I come home and everything that went to the beach (towels, suits) goes in the wash the first ten minutes I am at home, No sand, and the washer some how makes it through as well:)
Hi C., Try baby powder, we were at the beach one day for a teen event with our church, and I seem a woman rubbing baby powder all on wer kids legs, so I asked her why she was doing that, she said it was the only way to get the sand off, so it may work with the clothes as well, I would just powder them up then take them out side and shake them off and see if that helps. Good Luck J.
I put them in my salad spinner with lots of water and got almost all of it out.. Then I put it in the washer
Hi girly girl. Good to see you on here. Just wanted to say hey and tell you what a great day we had at the beach today. Looks like you got some good advice about getting at sand out. Let's do it again soon.
