I am 40 years old trying to have baby number 2. First baby had at 37 - got pregnant first try. When we decided to try for baby 2 in Feb of this year got preg again first try. But at 9wks found out I had miscarried. Had a D&C April 21st. May 21st got my period (we didnt try this month). Then got my period June 21st (positive OV test on June 7th). So this month started taking the OV test on July 3rd thinking I would ovulate around the 4-5. Took a test twice a day and didnt get a "smiley" face until July 13, then again on the 14 and 15th (I was kinda stressed this month, dont know if thats why I ovulated later). I took it on the 16th too and it was negative. My periods have always been pretty regular minus a day or two. My cycles are anywhere from 28 to 31 days.Decided to take a prego test yesterday since I havent had a period and was heartbroken when it said not pregnant. Did I take it too early? Should I wait until the end of the month and take another one? I cant even fathom the thought that I'm already perimenopausal.Any thoughts on whats going on? Should I talk to my doctor or just wait and see?

Unfortunately after a miscarriage your cycles may not return to normal for many months. You may have long cycles, short cycles, random spotting, etc.

Since you ovulated ten days later than you were expecting you should expect your period ten days later than you usually do. Which means you tested too soon. If your next period has you ovulating later again I would talk to your doctor about seeing a fertility specialist. I hope this helps. Don't give up hope, because you could still be pregnant and not know it yet!

You may not be preg this time. I had my first baby at 36, and am expecting my second in Dec (right before 38th bday). In any case, my cycle was so screwed up from nursing, that when I started ovulating again, my cycle was anywhere from 25-32 days. I swore I was pregnant one month to only find out that I wasn't. In fact, when I did get pregnant (the next month,) we had sex 5 days AFTER I should have been ovulating.

My point, your system is probably just screwed up. Have lots of good, quality sex next month, and just relax. The more you stress, the harder it will be. So put the ovulating tests away and just enjoy your spouse. If you listen closely, your body will will let you know when you are ovulating.

This just happened to me! I went to the doctor, took a blood test, and I'm not pg. He gave me a pill to start my period. Now, I have to ttc all over again!

It might be too early. There has to be a certain level of Hcg in your blood for a home (or any) test to work. You might want to call the dr. But I think you should just wait a couple of days and see what happens, if you don't have a period, then you can take the test again. I know for me, they don't work until later.

Good luck! :)
