I had it done about 10 years ago and it was the best thing ever!!!! I paid 2,500 an eye and continue to have 20/20 vision!
My husband has bad eyes and his contacts bother his eyes sometimes, and glasses bother him in hot weather. We are saving for lasik surgery. What amount is normal for this surgery? Are y ou happy with your eyes? I sure want this to be a good experience for him!

I had horrible vision. In order to see I had to have whatever I was looking at 6-8 inches away from my face. It was bad!
I went an had my Lasik done by the premier eye surgeon in TX. This guy works on the Astros, the Cowboys, the Spurs, the Mavs, all sorts of doctors and surgeons...the list goes on and on. My insurance wouldn't cover my Lasik. I applied for a CareCredit Card to pay for it. It was $4200 total. This included all of my follow up appointments (1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year).
I'm thrilled with my eyes! I have 20/15 distance and 20/15 near. I'm so glad I had it done! Make sure you do your research on the doctor who is doing it. Also make sure you're not settling for the bargain basement doctor just because he's the cheapest.
I had Lasik surgery done about 13 years ago. At that time it cost $1500 per eye. I had terrible eyesight and I couldn't wear contacts on a daily basis because they made my eyes so dry and gave me headaches from the strain. Lasik surgery was the best money I ever spent! I am 40 now and notice my eyesight changing again (needing readers) but they said that Lasik doesn't correct the natural aging of the eyes. I highly recommend the procedure. They have perfected it so much since I had it done all those years ago. Good luck!

I had Lasik about 4 months ago and it's the best thing I could have done! I actually wrote about it here: http://lilyrose.hubpages.com/hub/Lasik-Vision-Correction-...
Just make sure to do your research and select the right doctor.
I haven't had person experience with this, however my nephew use to wear glasses/contacts and before he went into the Army, he had the lasik surgery and it turned out very well for him. He doesn't have to wear glasses/contacts anymore. ;-)
Roughly $3000 for both eyes (or $1500 per eye) is what I spent on it.
He needs to be evaluated to see if he's a good candidate for LASIK - not everyone is.
If he's not a good candidate, then believe them and look for a different solution.
I was very very near sighted for a very long time (-14 left eye, -12 right eye) and I was corrected to 20/20 vision.
I can't tell you how great it was throwing out my last set of contacts!
Most people I know who've had it done have had very good experiences, but one person has had a very bad time with dry eyes for years afterward and she is not happy with her results.
As with any procedure, there are risks, and it's best to research thoroughly and be aware of them beforehand so you can make informed decisions.
I had Lasik almost 12 years ago. It cost $3000. I went to a fabulous surgeon in Orange County, CA (I lived in San Diego). It was one of the greatest things I've done for myself. I was very careful in my selection of doctors, I did research before making any appointments and I chose a doctor that used only the best laser for everyone. Traveling for appointments and surgery was inconvenient but I don't regret that decision. He had been a cataract surgeon for many years before getting into Lasik. He limited the number of days and patients he operated on. His primary focus was clearly not making the most money possible but rather in offering the best treatment for his patients. I had 3 friends who had the same surgery the same year and mine was the best experience. 2 friends had the surgery more than one time to get it right. I know of a former pilot who had Lasik and regretted it because of pain and discomfort he experienced afterward. My cousin's husband also experienced complications after Lasik. My mother had Lasik in Miami and she had trouble driving at night afterward.
I'll mention one other thing. A lot of people experience eye dryness after Lasik. I did as well and I also have allergies under my eyelids. I take an omega 3 supplement daily and I don't need to use drops in my eyes.
Great thing to do. I had mine done Summer 2003. I have been 20/20 since that time. My opthemologist noted that the dr that did my surgery did it so one of my eyes was slightly nearsighted & the other slightly farsighted. They compensate for each other. The only thing now is I'm almost 46 and as my brother had mentioned to me prior to the surgery (he's an optometrist), I'm now in need of readers. But hey! I was good at least through this past summer when they started messing with me because of age. I paid ~$2500 per eye. If you have health care flexible spending, you can use that to pay for it. I wish I'd known that before I'd had mine done. I probably would've waited until the following year when I would've been able to set up. Make sure you research & get others opinions! Good Luck!
I got Lasik a year ago and it is wonderful! Completely worth it. My vision is perfect. The only side effect is that I have to put eye drops in each morning when I wake up, but that is definitely something I can live with! My insurance covered about 25% of my surgery, so I ended up paying $2500 for the surgery and any follow up appointments with my doctor. Have you seen a doctor yet for a consultation? I ask because they will be able to tell him which Lasik surgery is right for him (there is more than one kind), if he's a good candidate, and how long it will take to recover depending on his age. My doc said the older you are, the longer it takes to heal. Good luck to you!
Great question! Does anyone know if insurance ever covers lasik or similar procedure? How bad are your husband's eyes, by the way? I am thinking about this procedure as well. My presription is -13.5 for glasses.
I was evaluated for Lasik some years ago and it cost $3,000 per eye, which included one additional corrective surgery if I did not like the results. I opted not to do it because I am near sighted and they wanted to keep one as it is and correct one eye for distance vision. The doctor explained that my brain would adjust and use one eye predominantly for reading and the other predominantly for distance, but I was worried I would have a headache and nausea for the rest of my life. He did do some basic measurements in the office to determine if I was even a candidate and it required additional more detailed measurements which might exclude my candidacy. The thickness of the cornea is one measurement as is the size of the colored part of your eye, but why I do not know.
I opted to buy super light Silhouette titanium frames that have no hinges or screws and the legs can be twisted into a knot and the whole shape is not altered. They were $400 six years ago, I wear them daily, and have not had to have them adjusted or fixed. My presciption also did not change since 2006. The have clip on sunglasses that cost another $72, so it is not a cheap solution but I love them. I have seen them online for as little as around $200

I had Lasik surgery seven years ago at the age of 43. I had very poor eyesight - near-sighted, severe astigmatism, and also was found to have thin corneas. Lasik was like a miracle!! I ended up with 30/20 vision, so not perfect but enough so that I could get a driver's license that didn't require me to wear lenses. I did not have to wear glasses or contacts for almost five years, then as a side effect of aging possibly, or just my historically constantly changing eyesight, my eyesight gradually got slightly worse.
I now wear glasses for driving and seeing at a distance, like watching movies. I still need no correction for reading and computer use even though I am now 50 and my eye doctor is amazed.
Prices vary based on the exact procedure you need. Mine was more expensive because of my high correction and the thin corneas, they needed to use a more specialized laser machine. I have never regretted having this done and wish it had been available years before. I would have done it a couple years earlier, but had to wait through my pregancy and breastfeeding, since they won't do it during those times.
The only temporary downside was that I needed to use moisturizing drops for quite a while after the surgery because my eyes tend to be dry. But then, that need went away and everything has been fine! I spent a total of $3000, but I know that my ex's and my stepdaughter's was much less expensive than this.
I had this surgery 12 years ago (Dr. Bentz in West Palm Beach). It was $3600 which is alot more expensive than it is now, but I can tell you it was the best money I ever spent and I NEVER regretted it! My eyes were more than -600 in each eye and I ended up 20/20, i had terrible eyes my entire life - then I could see!! It is a miracle surgery. Just go to a good doctor. Good luck!
My niece had it done at the beginning of this year and it cost around $5000.00 for both eyes. She had bad eyesight and suffered from terrible eye infections (because of the contact lenses) and headaches.. Since having it done, she no longer needs to wear contact or glasses, has not had one eye infection and headaches have improved considerably.
Well worth the expense, I would say!
Good luck with having it done.
