I have been thinking about having laser eye surgery to get rid of my contacts for awhile now, but I am VERY nervous about going through with it. Does anyone have any comments they can share about their experiences (good or bad) about the procedure? Also, if you would recommend your doctor, please let me know. Thanks for sharing!

I did it in 2002. It was the best money that I've ever spent. I couldn't see more than a foot in front of my eyes clearly and now I have 20/20+ vision. I went to Dr. Steinmetz office on Ogden Ave in Naperville. They are a regular optomitrist office and have a doctor come in from Chicago on Tuesdays to do the surgeries and they do all the pre and post-op care. It is a little cheaper that way, but they do an EXCELLENT job and adhere to strict health guidelines. A friend got there's done there 2 years ago and loved it and I know of 2 more people that went there and had a great experience. It's so fast and easy that you should go for it!!!

My husband did it in 2001 and has been extremely happy with the results. He used Lasik Plus in Oakbrook Dr Fagman. My sister in law also drove 3 hours to do it at lasik plus too and again happy with the results. Niether need to use reading glasses to read. Good luck. I see how it can make you nervous.

Hi!

I had laser eye sergery in 2001. Before then I had worn glasses since I was in the third grade. While I was terribly nervous it was awesome. It didn't hurt, and right afterwards I could see! My eyesight was a little foggy for the first few days, but otherwise I didn't have any problems. I am still glasses/ Contacts free!

Good luck

Hi Tami. Ipersonally have not had it done, but my mother did two years ago and is doing wonderfully. She too was apprhensive, but her vision issues became so complicated that she was willing to give anything a try. Trust me, she is not one to take lighlty to surgery...never before in her life or since has she ever had surgery oher than root canal. She said it felt like having really dry eyes the first couple of days, and then just got better and better. She does have mono vision correction due to her many issues with her eyes. also, the doctor did tell her that it would take a year for it to completely heal, and it did. Her night vision was the biggest adaption for her over the first year. She went to the one on Illinopis Street in Chicago.

It's been so long since I've had it done, but I believe it was in 2000 (7 years ago) and I had it done at Lasik Plus. They have 4 different centers you can go to. I went to Schaumburg for my evaluation visit and then to Naperville for the surgery and follow up visit. I have been contact free since then, and I wore glasses and/or contacts for at least 12 years prior to that. I am 30 now and LOVE that I had it done when I did because I think of what I would have spent over the last 7 years with doctor's visits and contacts and solution... yuck! It was so quick and painless I tell everyone thinking about it to run and do it! I have only heard of two people having complications from this procedure but I know they had very unusual circumstances with their eyes to begin with so as long as you are a good candidate then I'm all for it. I am pretty sure they do a free consulation visit and they will tell you what your chances are of success so it doesn't hurt to get it checked.

Really, I was in and out so fast and could see with 20/15 vision immediately after it was done that I couldn't pass it up. Also, I think now would be the best time to get it done because your eyes are very light sensitive for the first two weeks after surgery so since it's not summer and there's no blinding white snow yet it would be great to do it in fall. Check out www.lasikplus.com if you want read more up on it.

Good luck!

I had lasik back in December of 2000. I am extremely happy with it. Lets just say it is so nice to wake up in the morning and see your alarm clock etc. I love the fact that I don't have to put contacts in every morning. It is just one less thing to worry about. I do see the eye doctor every year. After seeing how well I did with it, my husband had lasik done two years ago.

I used a doctor at: Wheaton Eye Clinic (Wheaton and Naperville office)

My husband used TLC because that was what his insurance worked with.

We would recommend both locations.

Pain: mild- you do have some discomfort that day, but it was so exciting to open your eyes after the procedure and actually be able to see. You do have to mess with a lot of eye drops in the beginning, but that only last for about a month.
