hi K..
yes. i am allergic to many bug bites.
I take vitamin b as i was told by a dr that this vitamin makes your skin taste not sweet to bugs.
also, i don't use fragranced products any more, esp in hot weather.

When i get bite by mosquitoes, regular sized bump and redness. When i get bit by mysterious bugs without noticing right away, the bite become very large, sometimes over 3 inches in diameter. About a week ago, i got bit by a bug on my calf and it became huge. Now that it has been a while, the red area loos more like a fading bruise (althpugh i am positive it is a bite and a puncture can even be seen.). The bite is now a pale yellow circle with reddish purple "bruise" spots. Have you experienced this and would you be concerned?

I've had bug bites bruise. I would only be concerned if it appeared to be a spider bite.
I got the same thing at Disney world! I went into urgent care because it was getting worse not better...warm..and very painful to the touch. It was infected. Once i got the antibiotics though..it began to heal just like you are describing....and it took weeks to finally go away. I think the swelling and allergic reaction does create a bruise/hematoma and you are just healing from it. I would say you are on the tailing end of it and no worries now (unless you show signs of infection). However ...I'm not a dr.
I have something on my neck kind of like that. And how do you know if you have a spider bite? What if we were asleep? And it bit? Just wondering.
My son had that happened to my son over spring break. He thought it was several ant bits but it swelled up and was red servant inches in diameter. If it's hot to the touch which his was we punctured it and let it drain it was pretty nasty. We kept it clean with hydrogen peroxide and neodporen but almost had to take him to the dr. Bites can get severely infected and turn into a staff infection. So if it still looks bad get that thing check out.
Not sure what you have in Georgia, but up in New England we have black biting flies. They are bigger in NH but here in MA they are smaller and called "May flies". The bites are huge - it's a very itchy central bit, rounded rather than flat on top like a mosquito bite, and then the redness spreads out 2-5 inches. The whole red area is warm to the touch too. The discoloration you see may be due to the anticoagulant the bug injects into you so your blood doesn't clot and it can suck it up. (Yuck, I know...but that's what happens with many insects). Put ice on the area. If you are taking anything like aspirin, that can cause the blood to spread out too.
