Hello! I just got a 17" HP Envy dv7 that came with Windows 8. After spending 2 days dismantling the Windows 8 interface, I like it a lot. There was an article on PC World that gave me the steps to take care of most of the things that irked me to no end with 8. Now I have the speed of 8 with an (almost) 7 interface. Good luck!

I recently was in the market for a new laptop and did not want Windows 8. I was told that Windows 8 does have a learning curve. I believe it works more off of the "App" system and some are touch enabled.

If you are a huge fan of Windows 7 then you can track down a new or refurbished laptop online still with Windows 7.

So if you are in love with the idea of Windows 7 you may want to seek out a laptop online. If you are up for a small learning curve with Windows 8 then you might as well go with the new technology because it is the future.

One last thing, I read an article a while back that said that with online streaming, a lot of manufacturers have cut out the ability and hardware to play DVDs on your computer to save money. If this is important to you, make sure the laptop you are considering buying has the hardware and features that are important to you.

Don't buy one without a touch screen. I can't even imagine how batty I would be if I didn't have a touch screen.

If you are used to vista on up the learning curve isn't that bad. It is just a matter of where to tickle the sucker to get what you want.

I have a Lenovo twist. I had wanted the Lynx but grew impatient waiting for its release. Since I am a cake and eat it kind of gal I like the convertibles.

my dad got a new laptop a few months ago, it has windows 8 and he absolutely hates it.. I used it the other day and didn't have a clue of how to use it, its waaayy different. My fiancés father bought him a laptop about a month after my dad got his and after seeing my fathers my fiancé told his dad "I don't care what kind of laptop you get me as long as it doesn't have windows 8!"

I have a Toshiba Satellite w/Windows 7. It has an AMD processor and for what I use is for(internet browsing & schooling)it works very well. My husband has a Toshiba laptop w/Windows 8 and he hates it. That particular OS appears to be geared more towards a touch screen. In all honesty I prefer a traditional laptop w/actual keyboard over a touchscreen. Make sure you have all the bells and whistles you desire prior to purchasing - don't make the assumption that you can upgrade anything.

I just got a Toshiba with Windows 8. Although I hated Windows 8 when I got it I am starting to understand it and accept it better.

This one has the core i7 intel in it. I need a bigger screen so my laptop is larger. I like it and feel comfortable with it.

I am a computer person. I have had no problem with ANY other windows system even Vista that many people had problems with.

I HATE windows 8.
LOVE my new laptop HATE windows 8. The concept of Apps should have been left on tablets and phones. It has no business being on actual computers. There are 4 steps to get to anything in windows 8. It's not just there just off the desktop. They've turned the "start" menu into a bunch of apps. And if what you're looking for isn't there you have to go looking for it in the rest of the apps that aren't on the "start" menu. adding a device to your laptop like a printer takes several more steps and the only way to actually close the apps and not have them running in the background sucking up system resources is to alt f4 them. Other wise you go to the task manager and there they all are still running in the back ground.

as for computers, get an AMD processor, they have a better integrated graphics card in them. I have an HP ENVY m6 with an A10 processor. GREAT computer, bad OS.
