I have a friend that did it and said it was nice to loose some wieght but was miserable b/c she could barley eat a few bites b/4 she felt bloated. She said she felt she wasnt getting enough nutrition b/c she couldnt eat enough w/out feeling sick...she says the whole catch to this thing is just training your body to eat less.....you can really achive this w/out all the risks of surgery. Im really trying hard to loose on my own and hoping it will be easy. Well good luck w/your decision.

I know a few people that have had the Lap Band and My mother just did the surgery herself in April. I lived with her and helped her after surgery.
She has lost and the Dr. she used was the same as the one below mention already at Medical City.
I will be honest. I asked my mom the other day if she would do it all over again and she said yes. The trick is exercise too because you have to tone your body too.
She had some pain in her arm and side after surgery, but someone else who had the surgery told her to walk, it was the gas settling in her body and so my mom did, she walked and it was better.
The Dr. has been really good about gradually tightening the band too.
She said she's learned tricks like drinking something warm before she eats so it goes down easier. I know by the few people I know, they have not had any trouble, have lost the lbs., been good at working out and they each have what works for them.
I won't personally do it, but I think if that's something you want to to do, then go for it.
Also, I will say as an outsider that I agree with the mom below who said the Dr. at Medical City was awesome. I think he took great care of my mother...

R.,
My mom had RNY surgery in april 2004, all went well and she lost 107 pounds. However, since then she has gained 25 pounds back. I'm sure if you are considering this you have done your research and know the life style changes necessary. Good luck to you. Try checking out obesityhelp.com and from there go to the texas message board forum. Then ask away... My mom is Teresa D. Don't hesitate to ask her story. B.

My Mom has the lapband and has been very successful. Her surgeon was Dr. Richard Benevides. She had it at Richardson Surgery Center. She really likes Dr. Benevides and the center where she had it performed. She suggests that you go to one of their seminars and you can listen to the surgeons and ask them questions directly. She said that if it would help, she can talk to you herself--get the info from her standpoint. If you would like, please email me back and I can get you her number. ____@____.com Best of luck to you.

One of my friend's was going to get lapband with her 2 girlfriends. They all scheduled their appointments, but only one woman went first. She died about 2 weeks later from infection, I think. The other 2 canceled their appointments. I'm not sure where it was she had it done, but the risk is high no matter the dr.'s experiance.

I had it done in Feb. 2006 and I have lost quite a bit and feeling better than ever. I have not regretted my decision not even a moment. There are so many pointers and words of advice it would be so hard to type it all out. If you want to know anything at all, I will be more than willing to chat as long as you want to. The dr I used is in Plano and I love him! He did an excellent job....no complaints. I also know several people who used the other dr in his office and they love him. It is Dr Hamn and Dr Cribbons at Texas Center for Obesity Surgery off of Parker. I went to Presby, Plano for my surgery and my stay was excellent. Please feel free to e-mail me at ____@____.com

I would reccomend Dr. Jayseelan at Medical City Dallas. He is excellent in my opinion and is currently one of the most experienced lap band surgeons in Texas. He did mine two years ago and I have never had any problems. His website is texaslapbandcenter.com. Let me know if you have any questions.

My mother had it done in December and has lost about 60 pounds. She doesn't have to take her diabetic medication anymore. Three other people she knows went to the same doctor in Southlake, Dr. Sewell. They screen you to see if you would be a good fit for that procedure and then do some presurgery counseling. They have you meet with a dietician and the doctor regularly to make sure you are staying on task. It's been such a blessing for her (and the hopsital where they do it is awesome.)
