It is not the magic answer and since I had my surgery I know of several who have died or almost died during and after the surgery. If you are a person who eats all the time it may be an answer but the only people I knew who lost weight were eating something like soup only. I could not have the fills after a while for various reasons mainly health reasons and would strongly suggest you think several times about having the surgery. Looking back I would not have the surgery again and would have avoided many health problems. I know some have lost but the bad side to me outweighs any positive results I've seen. Like one of the doctors I have since seen told me, "Anyone can lose weight if they just cut down to 2 tablespoons of food at a meal". He is a highly respected member of the health community and is totally against the surgery because of the problems many have and the lack of real results.

I haven't had it done, but my sister-in-law did. She got it 2 years ago I believe. I don't think she lost much weight. She looks the same every time I see her.

It can be a good tool - but you must be prepared. Are you ready to commit to the rules of eating you need to follow for success?? You can only eat 1/2 cup of food at a time and you can't drink while you eat... there are lots of things to consider. It is very expensive and you have to keep going for the fills. I would encourage you to get online and look for real people's experiences. The seminars are only going to have people that had success!! The expected weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week - about the same as Weight Watchers and a good exercise program.

I have a friend who had it done recently - and just by exercising and eating healty I have lost more weight than her in the same time period...

I know you have probably gotten lots of responses from people who said the lap band procedure worked for them. However, I must tell you that my friend and her daughter both had the procedure done together and they have been very disappointed with the results. Don't know if it has anything to do with the doc or the patient. Just thought you should know.

S.,
I really agree with Laura. I am a RN and have seen it and have friends who have had it done. They look amazing if....they keep up the fills and proper diet. They still have to change, eating habits and it is expensive. Being healthy and not overweight has many health benifits and preventing other things. This may or may not be for you, but My friend is using a 4 product program called Core 4 and she is having a call if you want to listen to her every night this week.###-###-#### x 696974 @7:15pm. I have been on the program for 1 month and have lost 6 pounds and 2 inches, and some have lost more. I eat my own food, but it has a lot of healthy ingredients. you can also read about it at www.caloriesprinkle.com or www.weighlosscenter.net.
I wish you the best in your decisions.

I have a friend that had it done. She lost weight in the beginning, but after she got used to it she did not lose much more. The only way the lap band works is if you keep getting "fills" for it, because your body gets used to the band and you can literally go back to eating much like you were. The problem with that... my friend would get "choked up", because she would over do it. I went through LA weightloss and had better success, I feel, even though I have gained a little back, due to recent stresses (job loss, deaths in family, etc). If you plan to eat very little, pay for the fills and know that you might have a hard time getting food down....which makes you stick to soft, liquids in the beginning, I would say it's worth it. Any invasive procedure can also have bad side effects, I've known a few that have gone through that too with this procedure. My personal advice if you were a friend asking, would be if you are serious about losing weight, spend the money on a diet plan that will change your eating habits for life. It, in the end, is healthier. Hope this helps ;-)
