I just recently had laminated floors installed after 8 years of carpet. I brought the swiffer but I realized that I am swiffering 5 times a day and going thru the box of 32 like water and the broom is also stuck in the other hand. Is there anything else I can use that won't damage my new beautiful floors...Please help..im swiffered out...

What can I do next?

My neighbor cleans her rental properties with the Shark. She raves about the plug in one that uses steam for cleaning. She paid $100 for it but recently saw it at Costco for $50.

Just vacuum your floors then use glass cleaner.

One option is to make or by a reusable swiffer cover. If you can knit or crochet, you can make one. Etsy.com sells handmade, reusable swiffer covers. I bought one that was crocheted. It works great and I can wash and reuse. You can get some here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/BassWoodStitchery?ref=seller_info
You could also loosen your standards for cleanliness. :) GL

We have laminated floors and although I do swiffer a couple of times per week, we have dogs and it just isn't enough! We have a little hand-vac and my son goes around the edges of the room with it and just vacuums up the pet hair. We also just sweep with a broom into a pile and vacuum or use a dust pan to clean up. It's less expensive than swiffering constantly- and still much cleaner and less annoying than the carpet was in our busy, high-traffic family room!

We have laminate and use a small vacuum and/or sweep with a broom to remove the big stuff and then use the swiffer just to get the rest up. It's not the best, but it works. Someone recommended a regular mop and vinegar, but that's just too much work for me and I cannot stand the smell of vinegar at all. My mom also has laminate and bought the Shark mop, which she loves.

We bought a reusable "swiffer" which I bought at GFS (Gordon Food Service); the pads, which are microfiber, stick to the "broom" portion with velcro. The pads are machine washable (but don't dry 'em--they shrink... ask my how I know). I bought 2 pads, and now wish I'd bought 6 or 8! :) It also offers a "wet pad" cloth to use for light mopping, which I've also used for dusting or mopping.

I bet if you check www.instructables.com or google "reusable swiffer" you'll find products or tutorials to make your own. I think, if you could find a way to secure a microfiber towel to the head of your current swiffer, you'd be good to go.... I'm just not clever enough to do that & don't have time to try to track down that info.

I'll look tonight & see if I can get the brand name off of it. It's a bit more expensive than the swiffer was, but I'm not pouring money down the drain with the swiffer cloths any more. :)

My MIL had the same issue - she got her air ducts cleaned and she was only swiffering once a week....she said it made a HUGE difference.

Swiffers are the worst! I do have some luck with the Swiffer that has the vacuum on it but still very disappointed with the product. I use it once per day with a dry Swiffer wipe and it is fine. In short though the best luck I have is a regular dust mop each day and at least once per week I get on my hands and knees and squirt the floors with Bona and hand wipe with a damp cloth. I haven't found anything else that works as well as good ol' elbow grease.

Good luck!

P.S. I also have used a plain rag with my Swiffer too. Then it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to use.

Don't look at the floors so carefully. Commit to wiping them down at the end of the day. And one day a week, get on your hands and knees with an old rag and scrub the floor with hot water and elbow grease. Be thankful all that guck is not stuck in your carpets anymore.

Method has a great 'mop'.. like the swiffer one, only more robust. Method also has biodegradable cotton cloths. I reuse them. Though I also find large rectangular 'bar towel' fit the mop base.
Squirt/midst the material lightly and it picks up better and more.

I use thieves cleaner, it's anibacterial and seems to condition the wood too.

Take off your shoes when you enter the house. I like the idea of having your duct work cleaned, too. I Swiff once a week unless my daughter makes a real mess. I sweep everything into a pile and either pick up with the cloth or a hand broom and dustpan. We don't have pets so one or two Swiffer cloths work for each floor. I've see reusable cloths in Gaiam and allergy catalogs, they shouldn't be hard to find. Save your knees and use the Shark steamer to get up any other dirt or spills. It steams and sterilizes and is super easy to use. You can wash the Shark cloth with your towels. Don't worry too much about it! Enjoy your family instead.
