Lake Mary or Casselberry Area

With summer fast approaching, and my being new to this area (moved here at start of this past school year), I am wondering what everyone does with their children for the summer?

I have two wonderful daughters, ages 7 (8 in April) and 6. They have pretty much age appropriate interests. They like to make friends, play both inside and outside. I would like it if the program includes something to stimulate their minds from time to time. I would like them to both do the same thing.

We live in Lake Mary, and I work a "normal" (8-5) work day in Casselberry. Some info I have seen so far has weird hours, for example the program end at 2 or 3 in the afternoon, to which I say "HUH???"

Anyway, I would like to have a few options to explore before programs fill up, and am wondering what others have used and liked (or not liked) in the past.

Thank you all in advance. I enjoy reading about others experiences and advice.

What can I do next?

I know the feeling as well. I work 8-5 in Altamonte and live in Longwood, which isn't far- thank goodness. I have my 8 (9 in May) and 5 (6 in June) enrolled in Kung Fu (Shaloin Martial Art) by my house. They go there after school and they have a summer camp. The owners are a husband & wife team and truly understand if I am going to be late getting there, just call them and they will wait - but too long. During the summer, they are there at 7:30a for me as they know I have to be to work at 8 and you can pick them up by 6:15p-6:30. My son has been going there since he was 5 and my daughter since she was almost 4. I highly recommend them. If you would like their information, email me and you can give them a call and stop by.

I understand completely. I have recently enrolled my 5 (6 in May)daughter into the PAL program it is ran buy the Seminole County Police Department. I tried it over spring break to see how it was. They went Ice skating to Gator land Regular skating bowling and of course outside activities all in one week. As you I work an 8 to 5. They are open from 7:30 am to 6 pm you have to pick them up it might even be 6:30.I live in Lake Mary as well. It is located off of 17-92 behind the Supervisor of Elections building. They are watched by Deputies, which was a plus for me. If you want the number let me know email me back.

Hi B.,

I live in Orange County and I know that some of the public schools have a summer program for kids in your situation. My daughter's former elementary school had the extended day program from about 7am to 6pm almost every day and it was really nice. It was run by several of the teachers (plus high school students and other employees), they provided snacks, activities, field trips, computer time, art, playground, movies, etc... She enjoyed it and it was familiar to her. Also, there are park and rec programs that do basically the same thing. I live in Apopka and there is one offered for the city of Apopka. A neighbor has been sending her son there for several years. The city you live in might have someting in that realm, too. Good luck!
